Statistical process control(SPC) and engineering process control(EPC) are two strategies for quality improvement that have developed independently. In general, both techniques have reduction of variability as their objective, although they seek to accomplish these objective in different ways. Integration of SPC and EPC is finding wide recognition and is successfully used in continuous process industries. A simple case of an integral controller is presented here to show the application of MMSE controller to stochastic process. In order to keep the system on target, the actual adjustment in terms of MMSE using integral control can be implemented. This paper demonstrates that SPC, already used for process monitoring in the parts industries, and EPC, now used in process industries, may be integrated in various type industry for more effective control of processes.
Lean manufacturing refers to a manufacturing paradigm based on the fundamental goal of the Toyota Production System-continuously minimizing waste to maximize flow. Many organizations recognize the importance of becoming lean but most of them achieve the limited improvement in the part of entire processes. This results from the fact that many organizations not only understand lean manufacturing as just a tool for the cost reduction or productivity improvement or no inventory but also sporadically implement improvements without linking their efforts to an overarching strategy and quality management system as well. Many organizations are doing lean without necessarily becoming lean. All the elements of lean manufacturing system should be implemented based on the process approach considering mutual interactions among them to minimize waste to maximize flow. In this point of view, I am positive that ""ISO 9004:2000 Quality Management System-Guidelines for Performance Improvement"" based on process approach could provide a fundamental structure with the organizations toward lean enterprise. I hence would like to introduce a self-assessment checklist to help the organizations develop and assess ISO 9004:2000 based quality management system linking to their overarching lean strategy toward becoming lean.
As product life cycle is to be shorter, firms are in the hope of introducing much longer useful life of facilities than individuals product life cycle. In this respect, this paper provide a model to determine the optimal level of facility flexibility which capable of maximizing the net profit. This model consists of the functional formula of four parameter( I ( F ) , G ( F), C ( F), R ( F)) influenced to the net profit( Z ( F )) when various facility alternatives are considered. Also this paper analyzes changes of optimal level point of facility flexibility according to the incremental change of each parameter. Finally, using a numerical example, this paper illustrates each net profit flow based on change of flexibility level and determines an optimal level point of facility flexibility.
The main objective of this paper to purpose a evaluating methods of process capability measures for exponential distributed quality characteristics. For correctly evaluating process capability , the first thing , exponential data is applied the Lilliefors test statistic to the null hypothesis of nornality. The next , exponential parameters is estimated in terms of MLE , ME , MME and then evaluated , respectively , process capability index based on exponential curved (Cpe). We consider simultaneously process capability messures based on Pearson system, Johnson system and Burr system.
This paper presents an approach to derive likelihood models for use in engineering design problems. One main point is made. It is that incorporating engineering knowledge into a likelihood model is possible. The work is foundational in nature, but is developed with an explicit example taken from fatigue failure problem of a structural component, the Paris crack-propagation criterion, and a modified truncated Gaussian distribution.
A proper performance evaluation of ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) multiplexer is essential for stable management of ATM networks. We model the on/off traffics entering to the ATM switch as a Markov renewal process (MRP) and propose a performance evaluation method of ATM multiplexer by modeling the system as a discrete time MR/D/1/B queueing system, whose input process is the superposed MRP and present a performance analysis by finding CLP(Cell Loss Probability).
The goal of company is to pursue the profit, and the company wants that the service and product are available at the place where it"s customers want. In this regard, the newly focused SCM makes reducing the expenses of whole logistic available by cutting down the expenses of materials, transportation and stock and also, it allows the company to cut down the procurement expense through the reduced lead-time and rationalize producing plans by eliminating the uncertain orders and fluctuation in procurement. It further more optimizes the efficiency of over all productions by meeting the dead line for delivery to the customers. In the recent environment of globalization where fierce competitions exist between manufacturers, SCM plays important role in the strategies of companies, and managements of companies try their best efforts in establishing the strategy to accomplish the innovative relationship between supply chain channels. Therefore, in this study, we try to suggest the model of consolidated logistics system that is ISCM with suggesting the better way of logistics through SCM and comparative analysis with logistics system in advanced countries to resolve the difficulties numbers of companies face after realizing what SCM is in Korea.
Gradually recent automatic systems require how to manipulate all shared internal resources of system including components manufacturing equipments. Especially practical operation schedulings of manufacturing are gradually inevitable procedures in dynamic industrial environments. We suggest and evaluate a dynamic scheduling rule of machine and material handling system for on-line operation in job shop type FMS. Because alternating status should be included in operation scheduling procedures effectively and without delay in dynamic industrial environments, the mutual interaction between the machine operation scheduling and AGV dispatching rule was also studied to be based on simulation. This study compared the performance of the evaluation which was obtained from Dynamic Scheduling of FMS, and developed the Priority Rule Matrix for switching mechanism in dynamic environment by using those results.
In this paper, we propose a case study to treat planning and scheduling in factory of supply chain. In fact, the planning and the scheduling of a factory are not easily solved because of constraints of facility resources, material requirements, allowed planning times, and so on. However many packages are developed by vendors in Advanced Planning and Scheduling(APS) aspects to solve these problems. We, therefore, analyze problems of an electronic company and apply the tool, Factory Planner(FP), to solve problems.
We developed the software named as Management Quality Renovation Software in 2002 as a government project supported by the Korean Standards Association. In this paper, we present our ways to help small and medium sized industries improve quality by Management Quality Renovation software.
In this study, we establish bootstrap control limits for robust M-estimator chart by applying the bootstrap method, called resampling, which could not demand assumptions about pre-distribution when the process is skewed and/or the normality assumption is doubt. The results obtained in this study are summarized as follows : bootstrap M-estimator control chart is developed for applying bootstrap method to M-estimator chart, which is more robust to keep Type Ⅰ error when process contain contaminate quality characteristic.
A new display device development using CRT and CDT technology is required, which has concepts of flatness and slimness. Screen printing technology can be one of the solutions. In this case, good panel flatness is the precondition. Therefor, we did process capability analysis of panel flatness and regression analysis between panel flatness and BM(black matrix) position by experiments.
Recently, numerous government institutions and information service organizations have shown interests in employing ISO 9001 Quality Management System to increase their organizational performances. However, due to the gap between the system requirements and the process oriented goals in reality, they have not been able to merit from the ISO 9001 system. The primary goal of this paper is to propose a process oriented approach for implementing ISO 9001 system in information service organizations. This approach is different from the existing approaches in that it utilizes process mapping and 3-color improvement strategies. The proposed approach is illustrated using the K information service organization case study.
Initially, QFD (Quality Function Deployment) was introduced in 1972 to help design supertanker in Mitsubish"s shipyards in Kob, Japan and formally defined by the American Supplier Institute in 1987 as a system for translating consumer requirements into appropriate company requirements at every stage, from research, through product design and development, to manufacture, distribution, installation, and marketing, sales and services. Although QFD has complex and tedious procedure to complete, since 1972, it has now been used by Japanese, American, and European because of its fruitful merits. The objective of this paper is to provide and analyze the trend on the viewpoint of efficient value engineering of field workers using QFD technique as an value engineering approach. The data are collected by questionnaires. The samples for this study are chosen from 13 companies in Korea during 2 months (2002. 7 ~ 2002. 8). The results of this study will play an important role not only for the efficient value engineering but also for preparing of life cycle cost analysis.
In this research, we investigate the countermeasure of Product Liability through existing research or books for reference about PL and ISO 9000:2000 quality management system. And we analyze relation between PL system and ISO 9000:2000 Quality Management System after compare ISO 9000:2000 and ISO 9000:1994. base on this analysis, we integrate the Quality Management System of company and an important factor of PL system in accordance with the product liability law. So we present a general improvable scheme of ISO 9000:2000 quality management system that reduces overlap of quality business and utilize efficiently.
A law of Korean product liability was enforced on 1st in July for 2002 years. Although it is later than the United States in 25 years, and more later than Japan in 7 years, it have been welcomed a new chances promoting the preservation of consumer"s safety and increasing business compactability toward the small and medium size enterprises. Up to now, The a large enterprise, which have concentrated in export of an advanced country, have already the resistant power against the law of Korean product liability, but the Korean medium and small-sized enterprises were concentrated mainly a domestic market or subcontracting business of a major big company. Relatively very week positions on this Low. If They cannot supply the most safest product in the market, then Those enterprise are confronting the difficulty for surviving. Now the product safety has become more important role to the small and medium size company. Therefore, this paper offered the object and the direction how the company must carry out measures on this product design stage applying safe engineering and Ergonomic Technology for the achieving ongoing development and progress of small ann medium size industry in Korea.

Geometric shape morphing is a special geometric operation that interpolates two geometric shapes to generate in-between shapes, which can be used in various design applications such as pipe-like surface design or motion simulation in CAD/CAM. It has been well known that Minkowski sum can be used to design collision-free motion path and to modify geometric shapes. Recently, we developed a geometric modeling technique to interactively control geometric shape morphing based on Minkowski sum. The basic idea develops from the linear interpolation on two geometric shapes where the traditional algebraic sum is replaced by Minkowski sum. We extended this scheme into n-th degree B?zier and blossom control with multiple control shapes. In this paper, we introduce mathematical models of the proposed control structure and some of their properties. Moreover, we present a fast and efficient computation method based on direction map analysis, which has been optimized for repeated generation of in-betweens to outperform previous algorithms.
At present, most of web-based applications are on the basis of HTML-based form documents. These HTML-based form documents only play a role as user interfaces, but they don"t involve the procedures or rules of processing business works that aim to documents. However, form documents imply methods for treating documents, and these procedural knowledge embedded can utilize to actively perform business work processes. Procedural knowledge is defined in ERML(Executable Rule Markup Language), which is a XML-based rule markup language that has a format of Prolog rules. The ERML is not only executable in an inference engine, but also can be geared with WfMS (Workflow Management System) and can be used in a heterogeneous rule-based application. Thus, this paper proposes a ERML-based scheme for processing active documents as device for automating a workflow that involve a process of treating documents. Our active documents themselves involve declarative knowledge to support the process and control of business rules embedded in documents and the automation of processing documents. Also, we propose a framework for processing the defined active documents. In order to demonstrate the usefulness of the proposed framework, a prototype called ActiveWebForm is designed and implemented for a case of processing a request for requisition of IP(Internet Procurement) system. As a result, our approach is expected to contribute to intelligence and automation of Internet applications as processing documents by embedding declarative knowledge.
