        When radiation is irradiated onto biological tissue, the occurrence of biological change has been already demonstrated and the change of blood composition and chromosome abnormality could be suggested as the representative biological markers which can identify the disturbance caused by radiation exposure. Recently, radiation treatment is performed for the treatment of cancer. Since the protection of blood within normal tissue is very important, the development of radioprotective has been made continuously to protect normal tissues. Squalene is a very important precursor in the biosynthesis of cholesterol. It is the hydrocarbon contained in the liver of deep sea sharks and in olive oils, and large quantity of it is contained in skin, abdominal fat tissue, subcutaneous fat tissue, lymphatic gland, pancreas and in heart muscle. Because of 6 double bonds in SQ, it could easily bind with oxygen ions to have the hazardous oxygen removal capacity along with the effects of scar treatment, blood vessel expansion, inhibitory action of arteriosclerosis, and has been reported to have the effects on myocardial infarction and liver disease, treatment for burn. It has been reported to have active effect of fibroblast. Therefore, the current study was conducted to know the change of total protein, albumin, total cholesterol and glucose in serum after the injection of whole body radiation of SQ in mouse.

        To elucidate the effects of an obesity control program on body composition and serum lipid levels, 31 obese elementary students (male: 25, female: 6) residing in the Gyeonggi area were evaluated and their body composition, serum total cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol and TG (triglyceride) were analyzed. The average age, height, weight and BMI (body mass index) were 11.52±1.00 yrs, 151.96±8.04 cm, 68.21±9.03 kg and 29.40±1.79 kg/m2 for the males, respectively, and 11.17±1.17 yrs, 147.83±5.15 cm, 65.05±10.86 kg and 29.62±3.24 kg/m2 for the females, respectively. There was a significant decrease in BMI for males (p〈0.001) and females (p〈0.05). There were also significant changes in all of the biochemical levels evaluated before and after the study. Specifically, the total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol and TG level decreased after the obesity control program, while the HDL-cholesterol level increased after the program. These results indicate that obesity control programs do change the BMI, serum total cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol and TG levels in obese elementary students. Thus, obesity control programs are urgently needed to prevent degenerative disease and decrease obesity among children in elementary school.

        In this study, we assessed the effects of dietary supplementation with Ecklonia cava on blood glucose, lipid metabolism, and renal oxidative stress in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats. Male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into a normal rat group fed on a control diet and diabetic rats fed on a control diet or supplemented with powder (15% w/w) or water extract of Ecklonia cava (2.5% w/w). Diabetes was induced by a single injection of STZ (60 mg/kg, ip) in citrate buffer. The animals were fed ad libitum with the experimental diet and water for 5 weeks. Dietary supplementation of Ecklonia cava powder and water extract was shown to reduce blood glucose levels in the diabetic rats, and the water extract was more effective than the powder. Dietary supplementation with Ecklonia cava also reduced LDL cholesterol and increased HDL-cholesterol levels in the diabetic rats. Renal glutathione S-transferase activity was increased in the diabetic rats as compared to the normal rats, but reverted to near control values as the result of dietary supplementation with Ecklonia cava. These results show that Eklonia cava exerts an anti-diabetic effect by improving blood glucose concentrations, LDL/HDL-cholesterol ratios, and antioxidative effects on the kidney in diabetic rats.

        서울시 가락농수산물시장에서 수거한 총 2,066건의 해산물(어류 573건, 패류 721건, 갑각류 208건 그리고 연체류 564건)을 대상으로 대장균을 분리 동정한 결과 10.3%(212/2,066)의 검출율을 보였다. 분리된 212주의 대장균의 월별 분포를 살펴보면, 1월 4.0%, 2월 1.0%, 3월 0.7%, 4월 9.5%, 5월 4.4%, 6월 9.4%, 7월 30.5%, 8월 42.1%, 9월 21.2%, 10월 6.6%, 11월 0.7% 그리고 12월 4.6%의 검출율을 보여, 6-9월 등 하절기에 많은 대장균이 분포됨을 알 수 있었고, 검체별 분포를 살펴보면, 어류가 7.0%(40/573), 패류 12.8%(92/721), 갑각류 8.7%(18/208) 그리고 연체류 11.0%(62/564)의 검출율을 보여, 패류, 연체류가 어류, 갑각류에 비해 대장균 분리율이 비교적 높게 나타났다. 또한, 지역별 분포를 살펴보면, 강원 21.3%의 검출율을 보였고, 인천 15.6%,경남 12.1%, 전남 11.5%, 전북 22.2%, 충남 11.6%, 제주 6.7% 그리고 우리나라 이외의 지역에서 9.0%의 검출율을 보였다. 212주를 대상으로 혈청형 동정을 실시한 결과, O6은 소라, 키조개, 그리고 건해삼에서 각각 1건씩, O25는 문어, 멍게에서 각각 1건씩, O29는 소라, 키조개에서 각각 1건씩, 그리고 O8, O25, O26, O27, O55, O78, O126, O158, O168은 문어, 갈치, 미더덕, 바지락, 낙지, 쭈꾸미, 소라, 오징어 알에서 각각 1건씩, O167도 소라에서 1건 확인되어 총 16주 (7.5% = 16/212)의 O 혈청형이 동정되어 어패류 등 해산물에 대장균이 분포되어 있음을 알 수 있었다.

        The present study investigated the efficient methods to produce in vitro Hanwoo embryos, and to improve the pregnancy rate. The developmental rate, total cell number and ICM ratio of in vitro embryos were compared amongst different culture media. Comparisons were also made on the status of recipients, pregnancy rate along with day of transfer after the estrus. Development of embryos into blastocyst stage in IVMD101 supplemented with 5% fetal bovine serum (FBS) group was significantly higher (34.2%) than that of TCM-199 supplemented with 5% FBS (26.8%) and IVMD101 without FBS (25.9%) (p<0.05). The development rate to blastocyst stage was significantly faster in IVMD101(5% FBS) than that of other groups () (p<0.05). The average number of inner cell mass and trophectoderm were similar among treatment groups, which were and . However, total cell number in IVMD101(5% FBS and 0% FBS) was significantly higher than that of TCM199(5% FBS). There were no differences in the pregnancy rate among treatment groups (32.0%, 33.9% and 28.6%, respectively). However, the pregnancy rate of Day 6 embryos cultured in IVMD101(5% FBS) was significantly (p<0.01) higher than IVMD101 without FBS and TCM-199 + 5% FBS (38.0% vs. 17.2% and 32.4%, respectively). No significant difference was observed for the pregnancy rate between heifer and cow transferred with Day 6 embryos cultured in IVMD 101(5% FBS) (42.7% and 39.3%, respectively). However, there was a significant difference of pregnancy rate (p<0.05) in heifer between one and two embryos transferred (31.4% and 41.9%). There was no difference of pregnancy rate among transfer days after estrus between heifer and cow, but the pregnancy rate of transfer to heifer with day 6 after estrus was significantly higher (p<0.05) than that of day 7 and 8 (22.2% vs. 49.0% and 38.7% respectively). Based on the above findings, there is a possibility to produce in vitro produced embryos cultured in IVMD101(5% FBS) showed higher blastocyst rate and the increased cell number. In terms of the pregnancy rate of in vitro produced embryos, the highest pregnancy rate was observed when two embryos were cultured in IVMD101(5% FBS) and transferred.

        본 연구에서는 한식의 해외 현지화를 목표로 take-out형 franchise system 개발을 위한 기초자료를 얻기 위하여 한국적인 특성을 나타내면서 미국인들에게 선호도가 높았던 4 개의 품목을 선정하여 한국식단의 영양적인 우수성을 확인 하고자 실시하였다. 실험기간은 총 9주로서 전반기 5주(실험 1期)는 모두 고지방식을 급여하였고, 후반기 4주(실험 2 期)는 동결건조된 한식(제육볶음, 김치볶음, 두부조림, 나물 무침)을 첨가한 실험식이를 급여하였다. 대조군은 실험 전 기간 동안 고지방식만 급여하였다. 실험종료시 체중은 실험 군간에 유의적인 차이가 없었고, 실험기간 동안 일당 증체 량과 식이효율도 차이가 없었다. 장기무게는 대조군(A)이 한식식이군(B~E)에 비해 낮은 경향이었다. 체지방의 축적 지표로서 내장지방량(RFP, EFP)은 대조군(A)보다 김치볶음군(C)과 두부조림군(D)이 20% 감소하였다. 고지방식을 급여한 후 한식첨가식이를 4주 동안 급여후 혈청 지질 중 TC농도는 나물무침군이 94.13 mg/dL로 실험군중 통계적 으로 유의하게 낮았다(p<0.05). TG농도는 실험군간에 통계 적인 차이가 없었다. 고밀도지단백-콜레스테롤(HDLC) 농 도는 제육볶음군(20.38 mg/dL)이 두부조림군(17.25 mg/ dL) 보다 유의하게 높았고(p<0.05), 김치볶음군과 나물무침군은 차이가 없었다. 저밀도지단백-콜레스테롤(LDLC) 농도는 두부조림군이 가장 높았던 반면 나물무침군이 통계적으로 가장 낮았다(p<0.05). 이상의 결과에서 김치볶음과 두부조림 및 나물무침은 한국적인 특성과 건강기능성을 갖는 한식품목으로서 향후 이들 품목과 제육볶음을 적정하게 응용하여 미국인의 입맛에 맞는 take-out형 음식이 개발된다면 미국인들에게 한식의 영양적인 우수성과 인지도를 높여 널리 보급할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.
