The factors that influence ablation resistance in fiber composites are properties of the reinforced fiber and matrix, plugging quantity of fiber, geometrical arrangement, crack, pore size, and their distributions. To examine ablation resistance according to distribution of crack and pore size that exist in carbon/carbon composites, this study produced various sizes of unit cells of preforms. They were densified using high pressure impregnation and carbonization process. Reinforced fiber is PAN based carbon fiber and composites were heat-treated up to 2800℃. The finally acquired density of carbon/carbon composites reached more than 1.932 g/cm3. The ablation test was performed by a solid propellant rocket engine. The erosion rate of samples is below 0.0286 mm/s. In conclusion, in terms of ablation properties, the higher degree of graphitization is, the more fibers that are arranged vertically to the direction of combustion flame are, and the less interface between reinforced fiber bundle and matrix is, the better ablation resistance is shown.

The combustion reaction of polypropylene was investigated using a thermogravimetric technique under an air atmosphere condition at several heating rates from 10 to 50℃/min. To obtain information on the kinetic parameters, the dynamic thermogravimetric analysis curve and its derivative were analyzed by a variety of analytical methods such as Kissinger, Friedman, Freeman-Carroll, Chatterjee-Conrad, Ozawa and Coats-Redfern methods. The comparative works for the kinetic results obtained from various methods should be performed to determine the kinetic parameters, because there are tremendous differences in the calculated kinetic parameters depending upon the mathematical method taken in the analysis.

Dense nanostructured was synthesized by high-frequency induction-heated combustion synthesis (HFIHCS) method within 1 minute in one step from mechanically activated Nb and Si powders. Highly dense with relative density of up to 99% was simultaneously synthesized and consolidated under the combined effects of an induced current and mechanical pressure of 60 MPa. The average grain size and mechanical properties (hardness and fracture toughness) of the compound were investigated

LaFeO3 powders were synthesized using a method involving solution combustion, and the surfaceproperties of these powders were examined by x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. As the amount of fuelincreased during the synthesis, the LaFeO3 powders became amorphous with a large plate-like shape. It wasfound that the O 1s spectra were composed of two types of photoelectrons by deconvolutioning the spectra.Photoelectrons with higher binding energy come from adsorbed oxygen (O−) whereas those with lower energycome from lattice oxygen (O2−). The ratio of adsorbed and lattice oxygen increased as the ratio of the fuel andnitrate (Φ) increased. The binding energy of both types of oxygen increased as Φ increased due to the formationof carbonates.

Methane combustion over perovskite catalysts was investigated. For the preparation of catalysts, Co, Mn, Fe, and Ni were used as B-site components of the perovskite catalysts (ABO3) and La was used as A-site component. The effect of calcination temperature on methane combustion and perovskite structure was also investigated. The structure of perovskites, surface area, and adsorbed oxygen species were tested with XRD, BET apparatus, and O2-TPD, respectively. The formation of perovskite structure was affected by the calcination temperature. The catalyst desorbing oxygen at a lower temperature showed better activity for the methane combustion, therefore, the oxygen species desorbing at lower temperatures is responsible for the methane combustion.

Burning mosquito coils in indoor environments maygenerate smoke that can control mosquito effectively. This practice has been used in numerous households in Korea. However the smoke may contain air pollutants of health concern. We conducted the present study to characterize the emission from two common brands of mosquito coils from Vietnam and Malaysia, respectively. We measured mass emission of air pollutants of nitrogen oxides (NOx), fine particulate(PM2.5), formaldehyde (HCHO), total volatile organic compounds (TVOCs), carbon monoxide (CO) and carbon dioxide (CO2) in completely closed chamber. Air pollutants concentrations resulting from burning mosquito coils could substantially exceed health-based air quality standards orguidelines. Under the same condition, air pollutants were measured by cigarette smoking to compare mosquito coil. Burning one mosquito coil would release the same amount of PM2.5 mass as burning 20~58 cigarettes. The emission of HCHO from burning one coil can be as high as that released from burning 27 cigarettes.

Signal fire was a communication system which deliver urgent news by smoke and light. It informed the condition of the border to the central government and the military base rapidly. This research was to analyze the border signal-fire which is the main facility of military protective duty for safety of sea side in chosun dynasty. The results of this research were described separately as follows. 1. The border signal-fire has three types of facility layout, The majority was one-site, near two-site, separate type. The majority was near two-site type. 2. Plan configuration of signal-fire stand which is separated with circle, oval, round-rectangular and rectangular type roughly was constructed with circle type generally. Four types of signal-fire stand was observed in southern and western sea side impartially. However, in eastern side, circle type of signal-fire stand was mainly found. Therefore, regional characteristics could be considered partially. 3. The height of signal-fire stand was about 8~10m. The diameter of combustion chamber on the signal-fire stand was 2~3m in circle type, and the dimension of rectangular type was about 1.9×1.9~3.2×3.0m. 4. Building base that protect ground moisture and infilteration of rainfall was found in 10 border singal-fire, the height of it was about 0.3m~2.5m.

This work was performed to investigate the distribution of the fuel droplet size around the bluff-body and the combustion characteristics. The geometry of the bluff-body influenced the spray shape and the combustion characteristics. Diameters of the bluff-body in this experiment are 6, 8, and 10mm and the impingement angles( θ) are 30°, 60°, and 90°. The measurement points were at the distances of 20 and 30mm axially from the nozzle. The SMD and Rosin-Rammler distribution was acquired by image processing technique(PMAS), and the mean temperatures were measured by thermocouple. The results obtained are as follows; In the condition of θ=60°, the values of SMD are not greatly varied compared to the other conditions. As the impingement angle of bluff-body was increased, the high temperature region was wider along radial direction. When the air-fuel ratio was increased, the CO concentration was decreased.

Cu- nanocomposite powders were synthesized by combining high-energy ball-milling of Cu-Ti-B mixtures and subsequent self-propagating high temperature synthesis (SHS). Cu-40wt.% powders were produced by SHS reaction and ball-milled. The milled SHS powder was mixed with Cu powders by ball milling to produce Cu-2.5wt.% composites. particles less than 250nm were formed in the copper matrix after SHS-reaction. The releative density, electrical conductivity and hardness of specimens sintered at were nearly 98%, 83%IACS and 71HRB, respectively. After heat treatment at 850 to for 2 hours under Ar atmosphere, hardness was descedned by 15%. Our Cu- composite showed good thermal stability at eleveated temperature.

The characteristics of fluidized bed catalytic combustion for sludge treatment have been studied in a pilot scale of fluidized bed combustor. 1.0wt% Pt of catalyst supported on the spherical alumina was mixed with the spherical pure alumina as a bed material. Sewage sludge, heating value of which is 3,440 kcal/kg, was used as a waste sample in the experiment. Through the experiments, the various characteristics such as a bed temperature profile and flue gas(CO, SO2) concentration profile were investigated and the catalyst mixing ratio and sample feed rate were applied as experimental parameters. The experimental results showed that bed temperature was maintained more highly and flue gas concentration decreased with the increase of the catalyst mixing ratio, and bed temperature was maintained more highly also and flue gas concentration increased with the increase of the sample feed rate. The combustion efficiency of fluidized bed catalytic combustion of the sludge increased with the increase of the catalyst mixing ratio and sample feed rate and reached more than 96%.
