        To identify rice (Oryza sativa L.) cultivars suitable for Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam.)–rice double cropping systems, we investigated the yield and grain quality of four different midseason maturing rice cultivars (‘Daebo’, ‘Haepum’, ‘Haiami’, and ‘Samdeog’) and four midseason-to-late maturing rice cultivars (‘Hyunpoom’, ‘Saeilmi’, ‘Saenuri’, and ‘Samkwang’) in single rice cropping and Italian ryegrass–rice double cropping systems in paddy fields of Miryang, South Korea. We found that organic matter and available P2O5 content slightly decreased, whereas Na content increased, in the soil where Italian ryegrass was cultivated during winter compared to that in the soil that remained fallow during winter. The pH, electrical conductivity, organic matter, and contents of K+, Ca2+, Mg2+, and Na+ decreased, whereas the available P2O5 content slightly increased, in the soil where rice was harvested in both single and double cropping systems. However, compared to the optimum soil conditions for rice cultivation, available P2O5 and K+ content were high and Mg2+ content was low in both single and double cropping systems. At the heading stage, the culm length and leaf color slightly increased in most of the rice cultivars, whereas the panicle length and number slightly decreased, in the double cropped system. After harvesting, spikelet number and milled rice yield did not show a significant difference between single and double cropping systems. However, the ripened grain rate and weight per thousand grains increased slightly in the ‘Saeilmi’ and ‘Samkwang’ cultivars but remained either stable or slightly low in other cultivars in the double cropping system. The milled rice yield was high (> 500 kg/10a) in ‘Daebo’ and ‘Haepum’ among midseason maturing rice cultivars, and in ‘Saeilmi’ and ‘Saenuri’ among midseason-to-late maturing rice cultivars, in both single and double cropping systems. The head rice rate was high in midseason maturing rice cultivars in the double cropping systems, reaching > 70% in ‘Haepum’ and ‘Haiami’ cultivars, whereas it decreased in most midseason-to-late maturing rice cultivars (excluding ‘Samkwang’ cultivar), in double cropping systems. Particularly, it exceeded > 70% in the ‘Saenuri’ cultivar in both single and double cropping systems. The protein content in milled rice increased, whereas the amylose content either remained stable or slightly increased, in double cropping systems. The Toyo taste value decreased in all midseason-to-late maturing rice cultivars and slightly increased in the ‘Daebo’ and ‘Haiami’ cultivars among midseason maturing rice cultivars in double cropping systems. However, Toyo taste values in the ‘Haepum’, ‘Haiami’, and ‘Saenuri’ cultivars exceeding > 80% in both single and double cropping systems. Therefore, we recommend ‘Haepum’, ‘Haiami’, and ‘Saenuri’ cultivars as candidates for Italian ryegrass–rice double cropping systems due to high yield, head rice rate, and Toyo taste value.

        The physicochemical properties of soil and the yield and quality of rice (Oryza sativa L. cv. Sailmi) were assessed using Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam. cv. Kowinearly)-rice double cropping systems in the paddy fields at Goseong and Miryang in southern Korea. The average temperatures during the ripening period were approximately 1 °C higher than the optimal temperature for rice ripening and the sunshine duration was reduced by frequent rainfall. Consequently, it was slightly below the optimal conditions required for rice ripening. In the soil at Goseong, winter Italian ryegrass cropping increased the pH, electrical conductivity, and the contents of organic matter, total nitrogen (T-N), available P2O5, K, Ca, and Mg than winter fallowing. Particularly, the contents of T-N and available P2O5increased significantly. In the soil at Miryang, Italian ryegrass slightly increased the electrical conductivity and the T-N, Mg, and Na contents. Therefore, winter Italian ryegrass cropping improved the physicochemical properties of paddy soils; however, Italian ryegrass-rice double cropping slightly reduced the culm length at both Goseong and Miryang, without markedly changing the panicle length or number compared to fallow-rice cropping. Furthermore, at Goseong, Italian ryegrass-rice double cropping slightly decreased the spikelet number and milled rice yield, and increased the ripened grain rate; however, at Miryang, contrasting results were observed. In addition, fallow-rice cropping revealed no differences in the head rice or opaque rice rates. The protein content was slightly increased in Italian ryegrass-rice double cropping, without significant changes in the amylose content or Toyo value, compared to that in fallow-rice cropping. The peak and breakdown viscosities were slightly decreased. These results indicate that winter Italian ryegrass cropping might alter rice taste but may not exhibit remarkable negative effects on rice cultivation. Therefore, Italian ryegrass-rice double cropping system is recommended for paddy fields in southern Korea. Nevertheless, to increase the rice yield and quality, fertilization standards for rice cropping that consider the changes in the T-N and organic matter contents in paddy fields caused by winter Italian ryegrass cropping need to be established.

        For high-quality colored rice production, the cultivation environment is a critical factor. The major environmental factor is temperature, which includes the accumulated and average temperature during vegetative and reproductive stages. Generally, during the cultivation period, the temperature can be controlled by shifting the transplanting date. This study was carried out to determine the optimum transplanting date for high-quality red-colored rice production. Four red-colored rice varieties (Jeokjinju, Jeokjinjuchal, Hongjinju, and Gunganghongmi) were used as test materials. The transplanting dates were May 20 and June 5, 20, and 30 in 2015~2016. The most variable factor controlled by the transplanting date was the grain filling rate. The varieties transplanted on June 30 showed low yields owing to the decrease in the grain filling rate. In contrast, the polyphenol content increased with increasing delay in the transplanting date. Collectively, these two results indicate that the optimum transplanting date was June 20. The average temperature for 30 days after the heading date (30DAH) highly affected the polyphenol content. A lower temperature during the 30DAH induced higher polyphenol contents but also caused low yield. The optimum 30DAH temperature for obtaining a higher yield and polyphenol content was 22~23°C. Using the average 30DAH and accumulated temperatures, the optimum transplanting date was calculated as June 18 to 24 in Miryang region. The optimum transplanting date of Kyeungsangnamdo region was approximately mid-June to early July, and that of Kyeungsangbukdo region was approximately early to mid-June.

        ‘Nunkeunheugchal’ is a waxy black rice variety that has a large embryo. The quality of black rice depends on the anthocyanin content of the rice seed coat, which is mainly determined by cultivation environment. Factors that affect the anthocyanin content include nitrogen level, planting density, transplanting date and harvesting date. This study was carried out to investigate the optimum black rice cultivation conditions by examining the effects of different nitrogen levels and planting densities. An initial study was conducted to determine the optimum nitrogen level in which four levels of nitrogen were applied to the field (0, 4, 8 and 12 kg/10a). As the nitrogen contents were increased up to 8 kg/10a, there was a concomitant increase in rice yields. However, nitrogen levels greater than 8 kg/10a, the yield was maintained at the same level. Correlation analysis indicated that the optimum nitrogen level for maximum yield was 9.6 kg/10a. In addition, anthocyanin levels showed a trend similar to that of yield, with correlation analysis indicating that the optimum nitrogen level for maximum anthocyanin content is 10.6 kg/10a.On the basis of these results, a second study was conducted to determine the optimum combination of planting density and nitrogen level. The planting densities investigated were 30 × 12, 30 × 14, 30 × 16cm and nitrogen levels were 7, 9 and 12 kg/10a. A high planting density (30 × 12cm) was shown to produce higher numbers of tillers and yield. As calculated in the first study, a nitrogen level of 9 kg/10a shown to produce the highest anthocyanin content and yield. Collectively, the results of this study indicate that a planting density of 30 × 12 cm and a nitrogen level of 9 kg/10a is the optimal combination in terms of maximizing both rice yield and anthocyanin content.

        To fit the market demands for functional rice such as black and red color rice, ‘Sugary’a high free sugar content line was backcrossed to the black rice ‘Milyang152. The pedigree method was adapted in selection and generation advance. A high polyphenol content line, YR19646-3-2-1-1-2-2 showing red pericarp was selected and designed as ‘Milyang234’ followed by variety name ‘Geonganghongmi’ in 2010. Heading date of ‘Geonganghongmi’ was Aug. 19, medium-late maturing cultivar. ‘Geonganghongmi’ showed resistance to leaf blast and rice stripe virus while susceptible to major diseases and insects. The total polyphenol content of ‘Geonganghongmi’ was high as much as 24.2mg/g compare to that of 4.9mg/g of ‘Nampyeongbyeo’ and 17.2mg/g of a red pericarp rice ‘Jeogjinju’ at 70% ethanol extraction conditions. In local adaptability tests, yield of ‘Geonganghongmi’ was 4.5MT/ha about 86% of ‘Nampyeongbyeo’ and 102% of ‘Jeogjinju’, respectively. ‘Geonganghongmi’ is suitable for southern and middle plain area of Korea.

        Jungmo1019 early maturing rice variety was developed by the rice breeding team of the Department of Southern Crop, NICS, RDA in 2011. This cultivar was derived from the cross Hwayeongbyeo//Hitomebore/Nampyeongbyeo made in 2005 and the production of doubled haploid rice plant from anther culture in F1 generation. Testing in the replicated yield trial in 2008, a promising line YR25312Acp62 was selected and it was designated as the Milyang246. The early traus plauting local adaptability test of Milyang246 was carried out at three location in 2011 and it was named as Jungmo1019 showing a high head rice ratio and early–maturity eco-type. Number of spikelet/panicle and 1,000 grain weight of brown rice was slightly lower than those of Jopyeongbyeo. This variety is resistant to bacterial blight, rice stripe virus disease but susceptible to major insect and pests. The milled rice yield of Jungmo1019 is 4.52MT per ha at the early transplanting of the local adaptability test. This line should serve as a useful source for improving head rice ratio at early transplanting cultivation in southern plain area.

        We investigated the physicochemical properties and starch structure of various rice varieties including 15 colored cultivars. NKHC showed the highest level of protein, lipid, and total dietary fiber levels. Reddish brown rice showed higher lipid content than that in black rice cultivars. Apparent amylose content of waxy and non-waxy colored rice varieties was within the range of 3~5% and 15~18%, respectively. IP exhibited the highest total starch (TS) content, whereas, NKHC and HJJ showed lower TS content than that in other cultivars. Pasting temperature of all colored rice cultivars, except IP, was about 68°C. Peak viscosity of IP, JJJ, Hong, and GGHM showed high values of 138, 130, 128, and 124, respectively. All the colored rice cultivars presented A-type X-ray diffraction pattern and polygonal shapes of starch granules were observed using scanning electron micrographs (SEM). Major groups of amylopectin chain lengths were B (12 < DP ≤ 24) and A (DP ≤ 12). SMHC showed the highest B chain content and the lowest A chain content (P < 0.05). These experimental results provided useful information for scientists and the food industry regarding colored rice starches.

        Recently, rice growth and production have been influenced by climatic change worldwide. In particular, under low solar radiation and cloudy weather, rice plants show abnormal physiological responses. In this experiment, plants of the rice cultivar Samgwangbyeo grown 40% and 70% shading and natural conditions at the primordium initiation stage (PI) for 30 days and the booting stage for 10 days up to heading were compared. After shading treatments, culm lengths were significnatly longer than that in natural condition plots, and panicle lengths were shorter in the 40% and 70% shading treatment plots compared to control plots. After heading, the production of dry matter treated at the PI stage was significantly lower than that at the booting stage. SPAD values of the leaf color and N concentration of leaves treated with shading were greater than those under natural conditions. In the shading treatment, the lodging index at 20 days after heading was significantly higher than that in natural condition. For yield components, number of panicles, spikelet number per panicle, and ripened grain ratio significantly decreased with shading treatment; thus, rice yield decreased significantly. For rice quality, the protein content of the head rice treated with shading was significantly higher than that in the control plot, but the amylose content of rice treated with shading was signifiantly lower than that in rice in control plots.

        Bakanae (foolish seedling) disease caused by Gibberella fujikuroi creates serious problems in the foremost rice growing countries. This study was conducted to identify new resistance genetic sources to Bakanae disease. Bioassay showed that 11 varieties including Gwangmyeongbyeo, Hawn, Wonseadaesoo, Erguailai etc. were resistant to bakanae disease among 254 rice germplasm. Mismatch ratio between phenotype on bakanae disease bioassay and allele type of RM9, a SSR marker closely linked the bakanae disease resistant QTL, qBK1, were 38.3%. These results suggest that RM9 might be used for selecting qBK1, but it cannot be used for wide range of rice germplasm. Resistant germplasm in this study might be have resistant genes different from qBK1. The eleven varieties resistant to selected in this study will be used to identify new resistant alleles or genes to improve bakanae disease resistance in rice.

        Drought caused by global climate change is one of serious problems for rice cultivation. However, it was little reported the impact of drought on rice cultivation in Korea. In here, to assess impact of drought on rice varieties in Korean climate condition, growth characteristics and yield components of rice were compared on irrigated and partially irrigated rice paddy field. First, we have chosen 11 rice varieties including ‘Saeilmi’ and ‘Shindongjin’ which are widely cultivated in Korea. For partially irrigated rice paddy treatment, we have withheld irrigation from 25 days after transplanting and water supply was totally dependent on rainfall for rice cultivation. When we examined early plant height and tiller number of these varieties on partially irrigated rice paddy were reduced 1.6% to 18.4% and 10.4% to 33.1%, respectively, and these reduction rate were highly correlated with yield loss in our experimental conditions. Among rice yield components, panicle number was decreased 10.5% to 30.1% according to rice varieties and reduced panicle number was highly correlated with yield loss. Grain number per panicle, grain filling rate and 1,000 seeds weight did not have correlation with yield loss of rice varieties. These result means that growth stage, especially the tillering stage, is seriously affected by drought on rice cultivation in Korea. And we suggest that ‘Saeilmi’, ‘Ilmi’ and ‘Ilpum’ are good for rice cultivation on drought prone rice field in Korea.

        Seeds of colored rice generally have high anthocyanin and flavonoid content but some cultivars have low seed germination rate. This defect poses unstable seedling establishment in nursery bed. The seed gravity variations of 10 colored rice varieties and its effect on germination, seed soaking duration and their optimum seeding rates for seedling raising in machine transplanting were investigated in the experiment. Based on seed gravity distribution of the 7 black- and 3 red-colored rice varieties at three levels of seed gravity (1.0<, 1.0~1.06, 1.06>), the black colored seeds such as Josaengheugchal and Sinmyungheugchal had high amount of specific gravity of below 1.0 ranging from 86~ 96%, while they had only 3~13% of seeds in specific gravity above 1.06. Sintoheugmi, Heugjinju, Heugnam, Heugkwang had various mass of seeds, showing 29~44% for specific gravity of below 1.0, 24~39% for 1.0~1.06 and 25~45% for above 1.06. On the other hand, the red colored rice such as Hongjinju, Jeogjinju and Geonkanghongmi had high percentage of specific gravity of above 1.06 with 84~86% while they had only 9~12% of specific gravity below 1.0 similar to Ilmibyeo of noncolored rice. The black colored seed generally showed low germination percentage, slow germination speed and long mean germination time, and low water absorption rate as compared with seed of the red colored rice which was similar to those of Ilmibyeo used as a control cultivar. The black colored seeds took 2~4 days longer seed soaking duration than the red colored rice before germination. This was related to high seed amount of specific gravity below 1.0 in black colored rices. The high amount of seed gravity above 1.06 in the colored rice seeds was positively correlated with percentage of germination, germination speed and mean germination time, ripened grain ratio and water absorption. Seed gravity distribution effect were less pronounced between back- and red- colored seeds in seedling emergence. The black colored rice has slightly lower normal seedling emergence rate than the red colored rice and Ilmibyeo in the seedbed soil due to high percentage of ungerminated seed. Normal seedling emergence rate of the black colored rice in the seedbed was 75.2~82.2% for 10-day old seedling and 85.3~ 90.9% for 30-day old seedling which was lower by 4.5~ 8.0% and 0~3.3%, respectively, than the red colored rice. Based on the normal seedling number per tray of Ilmibyeo for seeding rate of 10-day and 30-day old seedlings, the recommended seeding rate of black colored rice is 200~ 220g seeds for the 10-day old seedling and 110~130g for the 30-day old seedling in transplanting rice while the seeding rate of the red colored rice was 220g seeds for the 10-day old seedling and 130g for the 30-day old seedling.

        주요 작물들의 표준유전체, 핵심집단 재분석, 전사체 등의 다양한 NGS 정보가 NCBI와 같은 공개 데이터베이스에 빠르게 축적되고 있다. 현재 NCBI의 SRA(Sequence Read Archive) DB에 등록되어 있는 토마토 유전체(genome) 시퀀싱 데이터만 800건 이상, 파일 크기는 23.5 Tb에 달한다. 그러나 이러한 NGS 데이터로부터 원하는 정보를 추출하기 위해 사용할 수 있는 분석용 대용량 서버 자원 및 빅데이터(big data) 처리 기술이 접목된 생물정보분석 프로그램은 매우 제한적이다. 이에 따라 대용량 서버를 갖추고 있지 않아도 대규모 유전체 데이터를 분석할 수 있도록 Genome Cloud 서버에서 작동하는 웹 기반의 SNP 분석 프로그램을 개발하고, 분석 자동화 컨베이어 QUEUE 시스템을 적용하였다. 이 프로그램은 사용자가 분석하고자 하는 SRA accession을 수집하여 프로그램에 입력하면, 자동으로 NCBI-SRA DB에 접속하여 SRA 파일을 서버로 다운로드하면서 SRA 포맷에서 FASTQ 포맷으로 전환한다. 전환된 FASTQ 파일은 자동으로 SNP 분석 파이프라인에 입력되어 SNP가 추출되고, 결과물은 데이터베이스화 된다. 또한 이 프로그램에는 컨베이어 QUEUE 시스템이 접목되어 IO 버퍼와 같은 시스템 과부하를 막아 효율적으로 분석 파이프라인이 진행된다. 1개 FASTQ 파일이 분석되는 동안, 다음 분석이 진행될 1개 SRA 파일의 다운로드 및 포맷 전환이 자동 진행된다. 위 시스템을 적용하였을 때, 1개 SRA(서열 길이 14Gbp)를 Cloud 서버(16 core CPU, RAM 64Gb 사양)로 다운로드하고 포맷을 전환하는데 약 30분~1시간이 소요되었으며, SNP 분석에는 약 6시간이 소요되었다. Cloud의 장점인 확장성을 적용하여 서버 5대를 병렬로 연결하여 사용할 경우, 500개의 샘플을 한 달 이내에 처리할 수 있을 것으로 예상된다. 현재 약 200여개의 토마토 SRA resequencing 데이터에서 표준유전체 대비 수백만 개의 SNP genotype을 확보하였다. 분석 결과물은 토마토 계통 및 집단 정보를 이용하여 향후 Haplotype, LD 분석 등의 주요 응용 분석을 진행하고, TGsol(http://tgsol.seeders.co.kr)에 데이터베이스로 구축하여 제공하고자 한다.

        ‘새신’은 밥맛이 양호하면서 복합내병성 특히, 흰잎마름병 K3a에 강한 벼를 육성하고자 2007/2008년 동계에 중만생종이고 쌀알이 맑은 고품질 새누리를 모본으로, 흰잎마름병 K3a에 강하고 수량성이 높은 품종인 신백을 부본으로 교배하였다. 2008년 하계에 양성한 F1개체로 약배양을 실시하여 96개의 재분화 개체를 얻었으며, 이 중에서 줄무늬잎마름병과 K3a에 저항성이며, 농업적특성이 우수한 YR27906Acp84를 선발하여 2년간의 생산력검정시험 실시 후 밀양273호의 계통명이 부여하였다. 3년간의 지역적응시험 결과 복합내병성, 내도복성 및 수량성 등의 우수성이 인정되어 농작물 직무육성 신품종 선정위원회에서 ‘새신’으로 명명되었다.

        국립식량과학원 영덕출장소에서 2002년 하계에 동해안 및 영남지역에서 출수기가 적당하면서 밥맛이 뛰어나고 재배 안정성이 높은 벼 품종을 육성할 목적으로 밥맛이 좋고 외관이 깨끗한 ‘영덕34호’를 모본으로하고 다수성이면서 밥맛이 우수하고 초형이 좋은 ‘새계화’를 부본으로 인공교배 후 계통육종법으로 전개하면서 예비선발시험, 2009년 생산력검정예비시험, 2010년 생산력검정본시험 결과 중만생이면서 다수성이고 쌀 외관이 우수하면서 재배 안정성인 YR24264-25-3-2을 선발하여 ‘영덕55호’로 명명하였다. 2011~2013년까지 3년간 지역적응시험을 실시한 결과 중만생종이면서 쌀 품위가 좋고 밥맛이 양호하며 내병성이 양호한 것으로 평가되어 2013년 12월 농작물직무육성신품종 선정위원회에서 ‘신보’로 명명하였다. 출수기는 보통기 평균 8월 12일로 중만생종 품종이며, 직립초형이고 탈립은 잘되지 않고 이삭추출은 양호 하고 까락이 거의 없으며, 수당립수는 ‘화성벼’ 보다 많으며 현미천립중도 21.9g으로 ‘화성벼’ 보다 더 가볍다. 도정특성은 ‘화성벼’와 비슷하고 쌀알 모양이 둥근 단원형이며 맑고 투명하며 밥맛은 “화성벼”와 보다 우수하다. 불시출수는 안되는 편이고, 위조현상에 강하고 성숙기 엽노화가 느린 편이며 내냉성은 ‘화성벼’와 보다 약한 중약이며, 잎도열병 에 중강의 저항성을 보였고, 오갈병과 흰잎마름병(K1, K2, K3)에는 강하나 줄무늬잎마름병 및 검은줄오갈병에 약하고 벼멸구 등 충해에는 감수성이다. 쌀 수량성은 지역적응시험 보통기재배 9개소에서 5.67MT/ha로 ‘화성벼’ 보다 4% 증수되었으며, 이모작 및 만식적응성도 높아, 적응지역을 중부평야지, 남부중산간지, 동해안냉조풍지 및 영남평야지로 하여 보급하게 되었다.

        본 연구는 유색미 품종들의 적정 재배시기와 지역에 따른 색소발현 및 항산화 활성 변이를 분석하여 고품질의 유색미를 생산할 수 있는 적정 재배관리기술의 기초자료를 얻고자 수행하였고 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 밀양, 봉화, 상주, 의성 4지역에서 이앙시기를 5월 20일, 6월 5일, 6월 20일 3시기에 걸쳐서 흑미 3품종과 적미 2품종을 재배한 결과 출수 후 30일간의 평균기온 19.0℃ 이상에서 평균기온이 1℃ 증가할 때마다 흑미의 안토시아닌 함량은 약 9.9%, 적미의 총폴리페놀 함량은 약 9%씩 감소하였다. 2. 유색미의 기능성물질 함량을 증대시키기 위한 출수 후 30일간 적정등숙온도는 흑미의 경우 조생종은 22~23℃, 중만생종은 21~22℃의 범위였으며, 적미도 21~22℃ 범위였다. 3. 전국 지역별 30년간의 기상자료를 토대로 적정출수기를 추정한 결과 제천지역은 조생종이 8월 11일에서 8월 17일, 중만생종은 8월 25일경이며 보은지역은 조생종이 8월 15일에서 8월 19일, 중만생종은 8월 20일에서 8월 27일에 해당되었다. 영주지역은 조생종이 8월 15일에서 8월 21일, 중만생종은 8월 24일 경이었고, 충주지역은 조생종이 8월 17일에서 8월 23일, 중만생종은 8월 22일에서 8월 29일에 해당되었다. 대구지역은 조생종이 8월 27일에서 9월 2일, 중만생종은 9월 3일에서 9월 6일경으로 주요 재배적지는 제천, 보은, 문경, 영주 등이었다. 4. 적정파종기 추정결과 제천지역은 조생종이 5월 18일에서 5월 26일, 중만생종이 4월 11일 경이었으며, 보은지역은 조생종이 5월 23일에서 5월 28일, 중만생종이 4월 9일에서 4월 26일, 문경지역은 조생종이 5월 24일에서 6월 1일, 중만생종이 4월 21일에서 5월 4일, 영주지역은 조생종이 5월 22일에서 5월 30일, 중만생종이 4월 13일에서 4월 27일, 충주지역은 조생종이 5월 31일에서 6월 7일, 중만생종은 5월 4일에서 5월 14일 경으로 추정되었다.

        A rice variety ‘Dabo‘ is a japonica rice (Oryza sativa L.) with good eating quality, lodging tolerance, and resistance to rice stripe virus (RSV) and blight bacterial disease(BB). It is developed by the rice breeding team of Yeongdeog Substation, National Institute Crop Science, RDA in 2012. This variety derived from a cross between ‘Yeongdeog31’ with good plant type and ‘Milyang165’ with good eating quality conducted in 2001/2002 winter season. A promising line, YR23160-31-2-1-5-B-3, selected by pedigree breeding method was designated as the name of ‘Yeongdeog53’ in 2009. After the local adaptability test was carried out at seven locations from 2010 to 2012, ‘Yeongdeog53’ was released as the name of ‘Dabo’ in 2012. ‘Dabo’ is short culm length as 69 cm and medium-growth duration. This variety is resistant to races, K1, K2, and K3 of bacterial blight and stripe virus and moderately resistant to leaf blast disease. ‘Dabo’ has translucent and clear milled rice kernel without white core and belly rice, and good eating quality as a result of panel test. The yield potential of ‘Dabo’ in milled rice is about 5.90 MT/ha at ordinary fertilizer level of local adaptability test. This cultivar would be adaptable to south plain, east-south costal area, and south mid-mountainous area.

        Recently, concerns have been voiced about the high eating quality rice in the market. To cope the high quality demands in rice market, a rice cultivar ‘Jinsumi’ which is showing high grain quality and multi-resistant to diseases was developed by the National Institute of Crop Science, RDA, Miryang, Korea. ‘Jinsumi’ was derived from a three-way cross of ‘Milyang165’and F1 plant of YR16195-B-B-B-21-1/Milyang169. The pedigree of ‘Jinsumi’ was YR21999-B-B-B-17-3-1 and designated as ‘Milyang 218’ in 2005. Heading date of ‘Jinsumi’ was August 15 as mid-late maturing ecotype. ‘Jinsumi’ showed multi resistant to rice stripe virus (RSV), bacterial blight races of K1, K2, K3 and moderately resistant to leaf blast disease. The grain appearance of ‘Jinsumi’ was translucent and showed 96.6% of head rice ratio. The milled rice yield of ‘Jinsumi’ was 5.74 MT/ha at ordinary transplanting of local adaptability test. ‘Jinsumi’ would be adaptable to the plain area of Yeongnam province in Korea.

        눈큰흑찰은 최근 국민의 건강에 대한 관심에 대한 요구에 부응하기 위해 2012년 국립식량과학원 기능성작물부에서 육 성한 품종이다. 눈큰흑찰은 씨눈에 함유된 기능성 물질 함량 이 높은 벼 개발을 목적으로 get를 모본으로 하고 흑찰벼인 조생흑찰 부본으로 교배하여 계통육종법으로 육성되었다. 선 발된 YR25277-B-B-314-2 계통을 밀양263호로 계통명을 부 여하고 2010~2012년 3년간 지역적응시험 실시하여 2012년 12월 농촌진흥청 농작물 직무육성 신품종선정위원회에서 품 종으로 선정되었으며 눈큰흑찰로 명명하였다. 눈큰흑찰의 출 수기는 전국 평균 7월 30일로 조생흑찰과 비슷한 조생종이다. 벼 키는 65 cm로 조생흑찰과 비슷하며 포기당 이삭수와 이삭 당 벼알수도 각각 13개와 73개로 조생흑찰과 비슷하다. 천랍 중이 17.8 g으로 조생흑찰보다 1.7 g 정도 가벼운 편이다. 도 복 및 도열병에는 강하나 흰잎마름병, 바이러스병 및 해충에 약한 편이다. 쌀수량은 3.54 Mt/ha로 조생흑찰의 4.12 MT/ha 보다 낮은 편이다. 현미모양은 장폭비 1.93으로 조생흑찰과 비슷한 중장립형이며 종피에 안토시아닌이 함유된 흑색찰벼 이다. 눈큰흑찰은 거대배 품종으로 씨눈무게가 1.46 mg으로 조생흑찰 보다 3배 정도 무거우며, 이에 따라 씨눈에 많이 포 함된 GABA 함량이 높다. 눈큰흑찰의 적응지역은 중부 및 남 부 평야지이다.
