        Jisujeong is a bower Kim Deug-yeon builds to best of his ability from latter part of his fifties. The building is not merely for pastimes, but for his applying himself to his own study, teaching younger scholars, and carrying on his own life converted to Nature. The reason why he name his building 'Jisu' is as follows; for staying the flowing water, for making his mind clear, not only for the former purposes but for awakening others mind. In addition, it can be said that he reveals implicitly his likings for the mountain and water, and has both wisdom and benevolence. In Jisujeong and Eight famous spots in Jisujeong, he recites the surrounding scenery of his life. The contents of the two poems are the longing for the benevolent wizard's life in the mountain, but indeed his genuine message are the beauty of Nature, and the disinterested living with Nature. Jisujeong and Eight famous spots in Jisujeong, making the relationships and functions of the poet and the persona clear, result in the harmony or unison with natural phenomena. In these poems we can find out, doing away with his ambitions for success or desires for fame, devoting to Nature, his livings free from worldly life for himself to the end. It seems that Ode on Jisujeong has seven features. Firstly, it has a full length. It represents he is a talented literary man. Secondly, the effects of description are in good use. Thirdly, he uses many difficult historical allusions. Fourthly, not a matter of prestiges, his thoughts and deeds, his words and deeds are kept accord with. Fifthly, the feature of describing his feelings has in common with the former Chinese poems. Sixthly, he reveals that he is a manly man, and performs his own natural disposition. Seventhly, listing the characters he has studied and respected, he presents the orientation of his mind. Kim Deug-ueon is both a scholar and a literary man, living from the mid-sixteenth century to the early days in the seventeenth century. Of his works, there remain six hundred Chinese poems, sixty three sijios(three-verse Korean poem), one lyrics, twenty three Chinese proses. Judging from this we are not supposed to fail to notice his value in korean literary history.

        The Photodegradation efficient of total organic compounds in the drinking water has been studied using the methods of photocatalytic reaction and laser beam irradation. The results are summarized as follows; 1. The photodegradation efficiency of total organic compounds shows as 50% to 80% as within one hour and after this the efficiency is decreased slowly. 2. The photodegradation efficiency of total organic compounds shows as 65 to 90% within 3.3min. when Nd : YAG beam is irradiated to the water layer. 3. An excellent observation of the organic compound removal efficiency gives revealed in that case of the longest wavelength of 532nm is irradiated among the three kinds of laser beam sources of 532nm, 355nm and 266nm. 4. The organic compound removal efficiency shows high in the case of UV beam irradiation in the thin layer of water. However the efficiency is not depended on the thickness of water layer severely. 5. The removal efficiency of the organic compounds in the direct irradiation shows higher than the indirect irradiation in the case of UV beam, but the efficiency is not depended on the direction of irradiation in the case of Nd : YAG beam irradiation.

        Characteristics and variations of chemical compositions in Co-rich crusts occurred in the EEZ of the Republic of Marshall Islands were reviewed. Correlation coefficient analysis, hierarchical cluster analysis, and Q-mode factor analysis for 62 samples were done in this study. All data were selected and gathered from the open file report of the cooperative cruise done by United States Geological Survey with Scripps Institute of Oceanography, University of Hawaii or Korea Ocean Research Development Institute. The average of crust thickness. Co content, and Ni content of 62 samples from the 21 seamounts were 30mm, 0.58 wt% and 0.40%, respectively. The mineral phases and associated elements assigned by correlation coefficients, cluster analysis and Q-mode factor analysis are following four. 1) CFA: P, Ca, CO2, Y, Sr: 2) Mn-oxide mineral: As, Mn, Co, Na: 3) Al-silicate mineral: Pd,Si, Al, Cu, Fe: 4) PGE-bearing mineral: Rh, Pt, Ir.

        This study was carried out to examine the effect on the contents of dietary fiber, mechanical properties, and sensory quality of bread contained with 10% of high-fiber Camellia (Camellia japonica L.) seed flour. Bread added by dietary fiber was the contents of moisture, protein and ash higher than control bread, while the contents of lipid lower than that of control bread. The high-fiber with Camellia seed flour contained 8.6% soluble dietary fiber, 43.7% insoluble dietary fiber, and 52.3% total dietary fiber. The ratio of insoluble dietary fiber/soluble dietary fiber in the high-fiber with Camelia seed flour was 5 times. Bread with the addition of dietary fiber contained 6.9% total dietary fiber. With the addition of dietary fiber, water absorption , mixing time loaf weight, and hardness increased, but the loaf volume decreased . The sensory quality on bread added by dietary fiber was somewhat low in color, appearance, crumb texture, mouthfeel, flavor and overall preference was higher than that of control bread.

        Effects of elevated CO2 and temperature on nitrogen (N) uptake , leaf N concentration, N partitioning , N use efficiency (NUE) and grain yield of pot and field grown rice (Oryza sativa. L.cv. Chukwangbyeo) under canopy-like conditions were studied over three years. Rice plants were grown in pots and in the field in temperature gradient chambers containing either ambient(350ppm) or elevated CO2 concentrations (690 or 650ppm) in conbination with either four or seven temperature regimes ranging form ambient temperature(AT) to AT plus 3℃. There were three N supplies 94g or 6g m-2 to 20g or 48g m-2.Elevated CO2 increased N uptake in field-grown rice ; the magnitude of this effect was thelargest (+15%) at the highest N level. However, in pot-grown rice, N uptake was suppressed with the effect was the largest at high N levels. Leaf N concentration declined at elevated CO2 mainly due to a decrease in N partitiioning to the leaf blades. Air temperature had little effect on the N parameters mentioned previously, wherease NUE for spikelet production declined rapidly with increased temperature irrespective of CO2 concentration. The response of the biomass to elevated CO2 varied with N level, with the greatest response at 20g N m-2 (+30%) . At AT, where high temperature-induced sterility was generally not observed, elevated CO2 increased yield. However, the magnitude of this effect varied greatly (2-39%) with N level, and was mainly dependent on the magnitude of the increase in spikelet number.

        In our studies on the role of -galactosidase in fruit softening, significant difficulty, was encountered in our attempts to extract RNA from persimmon(Diospyros kaki L. cv. Fuyu) fruit due to astringency and tannin content. Initial, unsuccessful RNA extractions involved methods using guanidinium isothiocyanate/CsCl with and without polyvinylpyrrolidone(PVP), phenol/sodium lauryl sulfate(SDS), guanidinium hydrochloride, as well as polysomal RNA purification method that used 0.2 M Tris-HCI (pH 9.0) containing KCI, Mg-acetate, EDTA, -mercaptoethanol, and sucrose. A method was devised which employed treatment of fruit with CO2 gas to diminish astringency prior to RNA extraction, followed by extraction of tissue powders with Proteinase K extraction buffer containing PVP and ascorbate at an alkaline pH. This procedure resulted in the removal of tannins and other polyphenolics and extraction of relatively large amount of high-quality RNA suitable for cDNA library construction and polymerase chain reaction(PCR). Futhermore, the procedure does not use the toxic and corrosive chemical guanidinium isothiocyanate or require ultracentrifugation.

        The high aluminous meta-claystones are thinly bedded to metasedimentary rocks which belong to Chununsan Formation. Major high aluminous minerals in the ores ae andalusite, kaolinite and pyrophyllite. The other significant constituents are sericite, chloritoid and carbonaceous material, etc. Ores can be classified into 4 types according to mineral compositions; andalusite- kolinite-sericite, andalusite-kaolinite-chloritoid, kaolinite-sericite-pyrophyllite, and kaolinite-chloritoid-sericite ore. The formation of ore minerals are resulted from sedimentary, diagenetic, metamorphic and hydrothermal processes. Andalusite are formed by low-grade metamorphism under the conditions of 400~500℃ and below 4kb, from the view-point of mineral stability field, illite-mica crystallinity and graphitization degree of the carbonaceous material. Andalusites are partly altered to kaolinite, forming major mineral phase in the ores.
