The aim of this study was to investigate dry matter productivity and nitrate nitrogen content in the growth stages of barnyard millet (Echinochloa esculenta) cultivated for feed, which was treated with different nitrogen fertilization levels. An early variety of barnyard millet (cv. Shirohie) was used for the test, and the different treatments with nitrogen fertilizer were as follows: 50% (N-40 kg/ha, T1), 100% (N-80 kg/ha, reference amount, T2), 150% (N-120 kg/ha, T3), 200% (N- 160 kg/ha, T4), 250% (N-200 kg/ha, T5), and 300% (N-240 kg/ha, T6). Sowing was done on May 13, 2021 and plants were harvested for four stage; vegetative stage, elongation stage, heading stage, and milk stage. The length of the millet increased significantly as the amount of nitrogen fertilization increased during the harvest period (p<0.05), but the difference was insignificant during the milk stage (p>0.05). Moreover, barnyard millet dry matter yield increased significantly as the levels of nitrogen fertilization increased (p<0.05), but there was no significant difference in dry matter yield among nitrogen fertilization levels during the heading stage (p>0.05). Chlorophyll also was significantly higher in T5 (250%) at all harvesting times, whereas nitrate nitrogen content was highest at the vegetative stage, gradually decreased as growth progressed, and lowest at the milk stage. Finally, as the nitrogen fertilization levels increased, the nitrate nitrogen content was significantly higher in all treatment groups (p<0.05). Therefore, our results suggest that the most appropriate nitrogen fertilizer levels is between 150%–200%, considering the dry matter yield, feed ingredients and nitrate nitrogen content in barnyard millet for feed.
Barnyard millet is a short-lived tropical, short-term C4 plant and has superior vitality in humid conditions owing to its freshwater habitat. It shows strong adaptability to soils with poor drainage and low fertility, and efficiently competes with rice in paddy fields. Barnyard millet grain is used as feed in the Indian region and is a great source of dietary fiber, proteins, fats, vitamins, and some essential amino acids. Considering its high nutritional value and its potential as a food resource and fodder crop, various countries are showing interest in cultivating barnyard millet. However, in Korea, farm households have not yet recognized the benefits of cultivating barnyard millet, and research regarding this is scarce. In this review, the features of forage barnyard millet and its related research trends are discussed, with the aim of improving interest in this crop and promoting its cultivation.
Barnyard millet (Echinochloa esculenta) can be processed through soiling, hay, and silage, depending on the weather conditions during harvesting. However, research on barnyard millet is insufficient, and standards for cultivar, seeding density, and fertilizers have not been established. This study was conducted to examine the effects of seeding density and seeding methods on dry matter yields. For this, we used the early-maturing (Shirohie millet) variety of the barnyard millet. The experimental design included different seeding density (10 kg/ha, 15 kg/ha, 20 kg/ha (standard seeding density), 25 kg/ha and 30 kg/ha), and different methods of seeding (drill seeding and broadcast seeding). The seeding date was May 13, 2021, and the harvest date was July 13, 2021. Harvesting was carried out when the heading reached 40 %. Lodging occurred at 5, 9 and 7 at 20, 25 and 30 kg/ha densities in the broadcast seeding, but not in the drill seeding. With decreasing density of seeding, tillage number showed an increasing trend in both drill seeding and broadcast seeding (p>0.05). The plant heights were comparable in both drill seeding and broadcast seeding (p>0.05). The heading stage of barnyard millet was checked July 7 for drill seeding, and, on July 8 for broadcast seeding. It took 62 days, i.e., till July 13 for the heading to reach 40 % of the output. The dry matter yield of barnyard millet was significantly higher at the seeding density of 30 kg/ha, for both the methods of seeding (p<0.05). There was no difference in the chemical composition of grain, based on the seeding method and seeding density. However, as the seeding density increased, the CP, NDF, ADF, and TDN contents increased in both drill seeding and broadcast seeding. We found that, the dry matter content was the highest at the seeding density of 30 kg/ha for both the methods of seeding, but this was only 1.3 times higher than that of 10 kg/ha. Considering the seed price and labor force involved in seeding, it is advisable to have a seeding density of 15-20 kg/ha.
잡곡의 Fusarium 곰팡이독소의 오염 조사를 위해, 총 244개 잡곡시료(귀리, 수수, 율무, 기장)를 수확기 포장에서 2017년과 2018년에 수집하였다. 데옥시니발레놀(DON), 니발레놀(NIV), 제랄레논(ZEA)은 면역친화컬럼법과 UPLC를 이용하여 분석하였으며, 푸모니신(FUM)은 QuEChERS 방법과 LC-MS를 이용하여 분석하였다. 잡곡 시료 중 귀리의 NIV 오염수준은 120.0-3277.0 μg/kg로 다른 잡곡에 비해 가장 높았다. 율무에서는 DON이 최대 730.0 μg/kg 검출되었다. 기장의 NIV과 ZEA의 오염빈도는 각각 61.5% 와 57.9%로 높았으나 평균 오염량은 각각 75.6 μg/kg과 21.5 μg/kg로 안전한 수준이었다. 잡곡 시료 중 수수는 DON, ZEA, FUM의 오염빈도가 가장 높았으며, 2 종 이상의 Fusarium 독소 중복 오염률이 70.0%로 잡곡 평균 29.9%에 비해 높았다. 잡곡 재배포장에서 Fusarium 독소 오염을 안전하게 관리하기 위하여 독소 발생 모니터링과 함께 오염예방기술 개발 연구가 수행되어야 할 필요가 있다.
본 연구는 기장 종자의 발아활력 증진과 입모 균일성을 통한 안정적인 생산을 위해 염수선(비중) 종자정선을 활용한 통한 발아율, 유모의 소질 및 포장 출현율을 알아보고자 수행하였다. 1. 염수선에 따른 기장은 비중이 높아질수록 천립중이 증가 하였으며, 표준발아에서는 정선 종자에서 3품종 모두 91% 이상 발아율을 보였으며, 비중선 1.040 g l-1에서 ‘황금’ 98.9%, ‘이백찰’ 99.4%, ‘황실찰’ 98.9%로 가장 높았다. 2. 모 소질을 조사한 결과 초장에서는 비정선 종자에 비해, 정선된 종자에서 평균 초장은 2.0, 2.2 및 1.9 cm 길었고, 엽장에서는 ‘황금’과 ‘이백찰’에서만 유의성이 있었으며, 경직경과 SPAD에서는 염수선 비중에 따른 유의성이 보이지 않았다. 3. 염수선에 정선된 종자의 평균 근장, 근중 및 경중 모두 길거나 무거웠으며, 근장에서는 1.040 g l-1에서 비정선 종자에 비해 2.9, 3.0 및 2.9 cm 길게 나타났고, 근중과 경중에서도 1.040 g l-1에서 가장 무겁게 조사되었다. 4. 포장 발아활력 검정에서는 품종에 따라 평균출아일수에서만 유의성이 있었으며, 염수선 처리에서는 출아율 및 출아율지수에서 고도의 유의성이 나타났다. 3품종 모두 비중선이 높을수록 출아율과 출아율지수가 증가하였고, 비중선 1.040 g l-1 에서 가장 높은 90.7, 85.3 및 92.8% 출아율이 나타났다. 5. 기장의 출아율 증진과 입모 균일성 향상을 통한 생산성 증대를 위해서는 염수선을 통해 비중선 1.040 g l-1에서의 종자를 선별이 유리한 것으로 사료된다.
동계작물인 보리를 재배한 후 하계작물인 수수, 기장 및 피를 대상으로 하여 조사료 생산량과 그에 따른 사료가치를 분석하여 보리와 적합한 하계작물의 최적의 작물조합을 선정하기 위하여 실시한 결과 다음과 같다.
1. 초장은 하계작물 모두 1차 및 2차 수확할 때보다 호숙기가 가장 컸으며, 수확시기에 따른 수분 함량은 1차 수확할 때 가장 높았고 호숙기에 수확할 때 가장 낮은 함량을 보였다.
2. 보리의 건물수량은 10 a 당 1,343 kg였으며 보리와 하계 작물를 작부체계에 따른 건물수량은 수수의 경우 1차 및 2차 수확보다 호숙기에 수확할 때 10,018 kg으로 가장 많았으며, 기장과 피 역시 출수기와 재생 후 수확 시 보다 호숙기에 수확할 때 건물수량이 더 많았다.
3. ADF 함량은 수수는 1차 및 2차 수확 시 보다 호숙기 때가 낮았지만 기장과 피는 호숙기가 더 높은 ADF 함량을 보였다. NDF 함량은 3작물 모두 1차 및 2차 수확 시 보다 호숙기에 더 많은 함량을 보였으며, 조단백질 함량은 1차 및 2차 수확할 때가 호숙기에 수확할 때보다 함량이 더 높았다.
4. 건물 수량에 대한 조단백질 총생산량은 수수의 경우 1차 및 2차 수확할 때보다 호숙기에 수확할 때 약 761 kg으로 가장 많았으며, 기장과 피는 출수기와 재생 후 수확 할 때가 호숙기 보다 상대적으로 높은 함량을 보였다.
5. 가소화양분총량은 3작물 모두 수확시기에 따른 함량 차이는 보이지 않았다.
고품질, 고기능성 조 생산을 위한 파종시기를 설정하고자 조 품종 및 파종시기에 따른 이화학 특성과 항산화 특성을 분석하였다. 황금조의 단백질 함량은 1~3차에서, 삼다메는 1차에서 높았으며, 황금조의 탄수화물 함량은 4~5차에서, 삼다메는 5차에서 높게 나타났다. 황금조의 명도와 황색도는 파종시기가 늦어질수록 증가하는 경향을 보였으며, 삼다메는 감소하는 경향을 보였다. 적색도는 전반적으로 파종시기가 늦어질수록 감소하는 경향을 보였다. 조의 팽윤력은 대체적으로 파종시기가 늦어질수록 증가하는 경향을 보였다. 품종 및 파종시기에 따른 조의 총 폴리페놀 함량은 황금조와 삼다메에서 각각 298.68~315.13 및 288.84~297.73 mg GAE/100 g으로 황금조는 파종시기가 늦어질수록 감소하는 경향을 보였고, 삼다메는 2~3차 파종에서 높게 나타났다. 전반적으로 총 폴리페놀 함량은 1~3차 파종 시료에서 유의적으로 높은 함량을 보였다. 품종 및 파종시기에 따른 조의 DPPH 라디칼 소거활성은 황금조와 삼다메에서 각각 104.70~126.89 및 111.75~136.92 mg TE/100 g, ABTS 라디칼 소거활성은 각각 88.69~114.64 및 69.80~100.09 mg TE/100 g으로 유의적인 차이를 보였다. 이상의 결과, 품종과 재배시기에 따라 폴리페놀 성분의 함량과 라디칼 소거활성이 차이를 보이는 것으로 나타나, 조의 품종과 재배지역을 고려하여 적정 파종시기를 설정할 필요가 있을 것으로 보인다.
This study was carried out to analyze the pasting and antioxidant characteristics of cooked mixed grains consisting of germinated millet and rice with varying addition rates and cooking methods. In this study, we chose two foxtail millets: glutinous (‘Samdachal’) and non-glutinous (‘Samdame’), along with a glutinous proso millet (‘Ibaekchal’). Cooked mixed grain rice-added germinated millet was cooked by general and high pressure cooking methods, with and without fermented alcohol. The peak and trough viscosity of germinated millet were decreased significantly with increasing amounts of germinated millet. The phenolic compounds and radical scavenging activity of cooked rice-added germinated millet increased significantly with the addition of germinated millet (p<0.05). The total polyphenol contents of cooked rice-added germinated Samdachal, Samdame, and Ibaekchal were 127.74~194.11, 128.20~192.56, and 128.88~171.28 μg GAE/g, respectively. The total flavonoid contents were 13.79~30.23, 14.77~25.99, and 15.28~29.56 μg CE/g, respectively. DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging activities were 3.31~5.73 and 6.31~9.69 mg TE/100 g for cooked rice-added germinated Samdachal; 3.14~8.58 and 6.05~10.19 mg TE/100 g for Samdame; and 3.37~7.45 and 6.27~9.27 mg TE/100 g for Ibaekchal, respectively. In this study, phenolic compounds and radical scavenging activity of cooked mixed grain rice-added germinated millet with different addition rates and cooking methods can be used as basic data for manufacturing processed products.
To select the forage millet variety suitable for cultivation in the reclaimed tideland, forage and feed value compared for 16 millet cultivars grown at the Saemangyem reclaimed tideland, Korea, from April to August in 2014-2015. In order to select barnyard millet for forage that substitute rice, a total of 16 germplasm were collected, including germplasm in retained by the Rudal Development Administration’s Agricultural Genetic Resources Center, and domestic and foreign germplasm which other researches were retaining in Korea. Out of the 16 germplasm, including Jeju barnyard grass (JBG), were initially selected which are late-heading, long plant height, wide leaves, seed shatter-resistant, and with high dry forage yield in Saemangyem reclaimed tideland. The highest fresh weight and dry weight of barnyard millet were 78.4 ton ha-1, and 21.1ton ha-1 in transplanting May 10. The content of proline was the highest in JBG and IT153610 variety. Total phenol contents were the highest in JBG and the lowest in PI183332 variety, but very high in yield ability were selected; JBG was selected.
This study was carried out to compare the cooked and antioxidant characteristics with of cooked mixed grain rice with an addition rate (0, 5, 10, 15 and 20%) of proso millet and various cooking methods. Mixed grain rice with added proso millet was cooked by general and high pressure cooking methods with and without fermented alcohol. All pasting characteristics, except for breakdown viscosity, decreased with increasing the amounts of proso millet. Water binding capacity and swelling power significantly decreased when increasing the amounts of proso millet, however the water solubility index significantly increased. The palatability characteristics of rice with added proso millet showed similar results to rice without proso millet. Total polyphenol contents of rice with 20% proso millet and fermented alcohol added, cooked by general and high pressure cooking methods, were 184.33±2.69 and 179.80±5.22 μg GAE/g, respectively. Total flavonoid contents increased as amounts of proso millet increased. DPPH radical scavenging activities with and without proso millet added were 4.20~7.50 and 2.97~5.19 mg TE/100 g, respectively. ABTS radical scavenging activities with and without proso millet added were 14.36~27.92 and 14.07~15.83 mg TE/100 g, respectively. In this study, cooked and antioxidant characteristics of cooked mixed grain rice with added proso millet were expected to be used as basic data for manufactured processed products.
This study was conducted in order to investigate the antioxidant capabilities and quality characteristics of instant porridge made of foxtail millet (Setaria italica Beauv.) from different varieties with different endosperm characteristics and processing using different methods. The two foxtail millet varieties used in this study were waxy foxtail millet, ‘Samdachal’, and non-waxy foxtail millet, ‘Samdame’. The means of processing food to create instant porridge were dry cereal frying, wet cereal frying, freeze drying after steaming, popping, and no treatment. The WAI (water absorption index) of instant porridge made of waxy foxtail millet was higher than that of non-waxy foxtail millet, and popping created the highest WAI among the treatments tested. Whean we analyzed RVA characteristics of non-waxy foxtail millet instant porridge, peak viscosity and setback values were decreased in all processed foxtail millet instant porridge compared to non-waxy foxtail millet instant porridge. In waxy foxtail instant porridge, the peak and final viscosities of processed treated instant porridge increased. The viscosity just after pouring hot water into the instant porridge was higher in waxy foxtail millet porridge treated by freeze drying after steaming, popping, and wet cereal frying; the viscosity of non-waxy foxtail porridge was increased after popping as compared with the other treatments. The polyphenol contents and antioxidant activities were increased in all processed, treated-instant porridge except for freeze dried porridge after steamingnt. The popping treatment showed the highest polyphenol contents (1.5 fold), and ABTS antioxidant activity (1.2 fold), compared to no treatment. Non-waxy foxtail millet porridge produced by popping earned the highest sensory evaluation scores.
Insamsokmieum (人蔘粟米飮), which is a kind of water gruels made with millet, ginseng, glutinous rice, and some minor ingredients, was frequently used as a medicinal food for the royal family, and it appeared first at the 10th year of King Sukjong’s reign. We investigated Insamsokmieum through a literature review and the「SeungjeongwonIlgi(承政院日記)」 of King Sukjong (肅宗) from his 1st year (1674) to 46th year (1720). We analyzed the nutritional value and efficacy of Insamsokmieum. In Oriental medicine, Insamsokmieum is prescribed mainly to treat symptoms such as nausea, languidness, and exhaustion in King Sukjong and Queen Inhyun (仁顯王后). In nutritional terms, Insamsokmieum has higher nutrition density than that of rice porridges (白粥) and has relatively high vitamin and mineral contents. Some nutrients such as leucine and glutamic acid, which are contained in the millet, are also known to help alleviate these symptoms. Whereas there have been studies on the efficacy and types of diet during the Joseon Dynasty, studies regarding nutrition characteristics are lacking. This study will demonstrate the superiority of dietary treatments of the Joseon Dynasty and their potential for application to modern nutrition.
본 연구는 생태형을 달리한 사료용 피를 이용해서 파종 기를 5월 1일부터 10일 간격으로 6회 파종하여 생육, 사료 수량 및 사료가치를 경기도 수원 지방에서 검토한 내용은 다음과 같다. 조생종 피의 초장은 파종기가 늦어질수록 작 아졌고, 수장은 파종기에 따른 변화가 크지 않았다. 조생종 피의 조사료 건물수량은 파종기가 늦어질수록 감소하는 경 향을 나타냈다. 중부지방에서 조생종 피의 최대 건물수량 을 얻기 위해서는 5월 1일까지는 파종기를 빨리하는 것이 유리하며, 안전한 조사료 수량을 얻기 위해서는 6월 1일 이전에 파종해야 하는 것으로 나타났다. 만생종 피의 초장 은 파종기가 빠르거나, 너무 늦어지면 짧아지는 경향을 보 였고, 수장 역시 초장과 같은 경향을 보였다. 만생종 피의 조사료 건물수량은 파종기가 빠르거나, 너무 늦은 경우 감 소하는 결과를 보였다. 따라서 만생종의 경우에 최대수량 을 얻기 위해서는 5월 21일경에 파종을 하고, 안정된 수량 을 얻기 위해서는 6월 1일 이전에 파종을 해야 한다. 조생 종 피는 빨리 파종할수록 조사료 수량이 높아지고, 만생종 피는 5월 21일경에 파종할 때 가장 수량이 높아 두 생태형 간의 차이를 보였으나, 절대적 수량은 만생종 피가 어느 파종기에서나 조생종 피에 비해 수량이 높아 실제 재배적 측면에서는 만생종 피를 선택하는 것이 유리한 것으로 나 타났다. 조생종 피의 조단백 함량은 파종기가 늦을수록 증 가하는 경향이었으나, ADF 함량과 NDF 함량은 파종기의 차이에 따른 변화가 적었다. 만생종 피의 조단백 함량도 파종기가 늦어질수록 증가하였으며 ADF 함량과 NDF 함량 의 경우에는 조생종 피의 경우와 같은 경향을 보였다. TDN 수량은 조사료 건물수량과 동일한 경향을 보여 조생 종 피는 파종기가 빠를수록, 만생종 피는 5월 21일경의 파종에서 가장 수량이 높아 적정 파종기로 판단되며, 두 생 태형 모두 6월 1일 이전까지는 파종을 해야 안정적 수량을 얻을 수 있다. 동계 조사료작물을 도입한 작부체계에서는 동계작물의 종류에 따라 연중 최대생산을 얻을 수 있는 하 계 사료피의 생태형과 파종기를 선택해야 할 것이다. 따라 서 이러한 하계사료피+동계사료작물의 작부체계 구축에 파종기별 사료피의 수량성과 사료품질 특성은 유용한 정보 가 될 수 있을 것이다.
The effects of barnyard millet (Echinochloa spp.) content (10~30%) on wheat flour dough and noodle properties were investigated. As the amount of barnyard millet increased, the particle size and ash content of mixed flour increased, while lightness tended to decrease. The gelatinization characteristics of millet flour showed higher peak viscosity, holding strength, final viscosity, and setback compared with wheat flour. There was significant positive correlation between protein content and sedimentation volume, as well as between protein content and water absorption. As the amount of barnyard millet increased, hardness, springiness and cohesiveness of wet noodles tended to decrease. From the results of sensory evaluation, composite flours (addition up to 20% barnyard millet) were rated with a quality score for taste and overall acceptance which was comparable with the control flour.
