        As the number of households with pets has increased worldwide, there is a growing trend of accepting pets as family members. Consequently, the pet food market has seen the emergence of concepts such as “human-grade,” “raw (PMR and BARF),” and “no synthetic additives” pet food. These concepts not only fulfill essential nutrients but also consider the health and habits of pets, a crucial aspect that should be at the forefront of our work. However, these types of pet food are prone to microbial contamination and component alterations caused by heat. Current studies and products have recently been developed overseas to apply non-thermal sterilization technologies to pet food commonly used in the food industry. In contrast, the domestic standards for non-thermal sterilization in pet food are insufficient. Therefore, a comprehensive review of non-thermal sterilization technologies, such as high-pressure processing (HPP), radiation, and plasma predominantly applied in the international pet food market, is deemed necessary. This review is expected to provide guidelines for non-thermal sterilization standards in domestic pet food, thereby laying the foundation for the safe production of raw pet food.

        For the regeneration of diesel particulate filters (DPF) using non-thermal plasma (NTP), both cost-effectiveness and regeneration efficiency should be raised. This study compared and contrasted the physicochemical characteristics of carbon black and engine particulate matter (PM). After carbon black was put into the DPF, an experimental setup for the oxidation of PM using NTP was created. The findings showed that carbon black and PM samples had comparable oxidation traits, micronanostructures, and C/O elemental ratios. O3, the main active species in NTP, was susceptible to heat breakdown, and the rate of decomposition of O3 increases with increasing temperature. The removal effectiveness of carbon black first improved and subsequently declined with an increase in the NTP injection flow rate during offline DPF regeneration using NTP at room temperature. A relatively high carbon black removal efficiency of 85.1% was achieved at an NTP injection flow rate of 30 L/min.

        The purpose of this study was to compare the efficiency of air and oxygen injected into the underwater non-thermal dielectric barrier discharge plasma (DBD plasma) device used to remove five types of antibiotics (tetracycline, doxycycline, oxytetracycline, clindamycin, and erythromycin) artificially contained in the fish farm discharge water. The voltage given to generate DBD plasma was 27.8 kV, and the measurement intervals were 0, 0.5, 1, 2, 4, 8, 16 and 32 minutes. Tetracycline antibiotics significantly decreased in 4 minutes when air was injected and were reduced in 30 seconds when oxygen was injected. After the introduction of air and oxygen at 32 minutes, 78.1% and 95.8% of tetracycline were removed, 77.1% and 96.3% of doxycycline were removed, and 77.1% and 95.5% of oxytetracycline were removed, respectively. In air and oxygen, 59.6% and 83.0% of clindamycin and 53.3% and 74.3% of erythromycin were removed, respectively. The two antibiotics showed lower removal efficiency than tetracyclines. In conclusion, fish farm discharge water contains five different types of antibiotics that can be reduced using underwater DBD plasma, and oxygen gas injection outperformed air in terms of removal efficiency.

        Low alcohol (6%) wines were manufactured using Campbell Early. To develop the sterilization process of low alcohol wines, red wines were heat sterilized, and rose wines were nonthermal sterilized by concentration using potassium metasulfite and potassium sorbate. Samples were stored at 25℃ and quality characteristics were investigated by period. Results of this study revealed the pH of the samples after sterilization ranged from 3.15 to 3.19, and the total acidity of wines ranged from 0.011 to 0.024%. The free SO2 contents of wines ranged from 13.00 to 29.678 mg/L, and the total SO2 contents of wines ranged from 47.50 to 121.00 mg/L. L (lightness) of wines decreased whereas a (redness) and b(yellowness) increased. The hue value of wines ranged from 0.52 to 1.03, and decreased significantly(not including rose sweet wines). The color intensity of red and rose dry wines after sterilization increased, whereas red and rose sweet wines decreased. The DPPH radical scavenging activity of red wines and rose wines ranged between 75.50 to 89.23%, and 36.60 to 56.54%, respectively. The total polyphenol contents were 57.51~182.63 mg%. Results of this study provide scientific information to establish the sterilization process of low alcohol wines.

        본 연구는 감마선 및 전자선 조사에 의한 닭고기 원료 사료 내에 존재하는 주요 위해 미생물을 비열처리 살균 효과를 검증하기 위하여 진행되었다. 일반세균, E. coli 및 Salmonella의 위해 미생물을 분쇄 닭고기 원료사료에 접종 후 3, 5, 7, 10 kGy의 전자선과 감마선으로 조사하였다. 전자선과 감마선 모두 3 kGy의 조사 시 시험된 미생물을 검출 한계 이하로 사멸시켜 분쇄 육류 원료 사료의 경우 3 kGy의 흡수선량이 충분한 비열 살균 조건임을 보여주었다. 방사선 조사에 의한 원료 사료의 품질 지표 변화를 알아보기 위하여 분쇄 닭고기의 조사 처리 후 pH 변화, 색도 측정, 전자코 이취 분석을 수행하였다. pH와 색도의 경우 감마선 및 전자선 조사에 의해 유의미하게 변화하지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 전자코 이취 시험의 경우 감마선 조사의 경우 3 kGy의 저선량 조사부터 이취가 발생되기 시작하였으며 10 kGy 조사 시 급격하게 이취의 정도가 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 전자선 조사 역시 3 kGy의 조사부터 이취가 발생하였으며 5 kGy의 선량 이후 흡수선량이 증가함에 따라 이취가 점진적으로 증가하였다. 본 연구 결과 3 kGy의 저선량에서도 닭고기를 원료로한 펫푸드의 비열 살균 효과를 충분하게 이루어짐을 확인하였고 품질 지표에도 부정적인 영향을 주지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 비열처리 펫푸드의 살균 기술 개발은 국내 펫푸드 시장의 활성화와 반려 동물의 복지 향상에 기여할 것으로 기대된다.

        Observations of line of sight (LOS) Doppler velocity and non-thermal line width in the o -limb solar corona are often used for investigating the Alfven wave signatures in the corona. In this study, we compare LOS Doppler velocities and non-thermal line widths obtained simultaneously from two di erent instruments, Coronal Multichannel Polarimeter (CoMP) and Hinode/EUV Imaging Spectrometer (EIS), on various o -limb coronal regions: aring and quiescent active regions, equatorial quiet region, and polar prominence and plume regions observed in 2012{2014. CoMP provides the polarization at the Fe xiii 10747 A coronal forbidden lines which allows their spectral line intensity, LOS Doppler velocity, and line width to be measured with a low spectral resolution of 1.2 A in 2-D o limb corona between 1.05 and 1.40 RSun, while Hinode/EIS gives us the EUV spectral information with a high spectral resolution (0.025 A) in a limited eld of view raster scan. In order to compare them, we make pseudo raster scan CoMP maps using information of each EIS scan slit time and position. We compare the CoMP and EIS spectroscopic maps by visual inspection, and examine their pixel to pixel correlations and percentages of pixel numbers satisfying the condition that the di erences between CoMP and EIS spectroscopic quantities are within the EIS measurement accuracy: 3 kms􀀀1 for LOS Doppler velocity and 9 kms􀀀1 for non-thermal width. The main results are summarized as follows. By comparing CoMP and EIS Doppler velocity distributions, we nd that they are consistent with each other overall in the active regions and equatorial quiet region (0.25  CC  0.7), while they are partially similar to each other in the overlying loops of prominences and near the bottom of the polar plume (0.02  CC  0.18). CoMP Doppler velocities are consistent with the EIS ones within the EIS measurement accuracy in most regions ( 87% of pixels) except for the polar region (45% of pixels). We nd that CoMP and EIS non-thermal width distributions are similar overall in the active regions (0.06  CC  0.61), while they seem to be di erent in the others (􀀀0:1  CC  0.00). CoMP non-thermal widths are similar to EIS ones within the EIS measurement accuracy in a quiescent active region (79% of pixels), while they do not match in the other regions ( 61% of pixels); the CoMP observations tend to underestimate the widths by about 20% to 40% compared to the EIS ones. Our results demonstrate that CoMP observations can provide reliable 2-D LOS Doppler velocity distributions on active regions and might provide their non-thermal width distributions.

        Bemisia tabaci is a vector of Tomato yellow leaf curl virus (TYLCV) but Trialeurodes vaporariorum is not. To determine the effect of TYLCV acquisition on vector and non-vector, we compared various physiological characteristics between two species. Our results showed that TYLCV acquisition significantly affected B. tabaci but not T. vaporariorum. The B. tabaci increased susceptibility against thermal stress but weakened chill coma recovery, shortening of longevity, low fecundity and abbreviated developmental time by virus acquisition. At the molecular level, B. tabaci increased hsp70 and hsp90 levels by TYLCV ingestion. However, T. vaporariorum did not shown any changes of those characteristics. Therefore, the physiological manipulation of TYLCV was specific to vector species but not non-vector species.

        Reanalysis using the US Food and Drug Administration Hazard Analysis method was performed to evaluate the effectiveness of the current Critical Control Point (CCP) configuration for non-thermal processes such as meat packaging plants and butcher shops. During non-heat treatment processing without the process of removing or reducing contaminated microorganisms, it is necessary to set and control the incoming material inspection step with the CCP since this step is essential to prevent the inflow of contaminants through incoming materials. The temperature control of the final product storage refrigerated room can be managed by the prerequisite program. However, the CCP setting of the refrigerated room prior to shipment of the meat packaging plant in which the cold chain system should be maintained in the following distribution stage is recognized. It is not an effective method to install a metal detector and manage it with CCP for metal hazard control. Improving hygienic cleaning guidelines and enhancing hygiene training are proactive and effective measures against metal particle contamination.

        Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) emitted from various sources is a major odorous compound, and non-thermal plasma (NP) has emerged as a promising technique to eliminate H2S. This study was conducted to investigate lab-scale and pilot-scale NP reactors using corona discharge for the removal of H2S, and the effects of relative humidity, applied electrical power on reactor performance and ozone generation were determined. A gas stream containing H2S was injected to the lab-scale NP reactor, and the changes in H2S and ozone concentration were monitored. In the pilotscale NP experiment, the inlet concentration and flow rate were modified to determine the effect of relative humidity and applied power on the NP performance. In the lab-scale NP experiments, H2S removal was found to be the 1st-order reaction in the presence of ozone. On the other hand, when plasma reaction and ozone generation were initiated after H2S was introduced, the H2S oxidation followed the 0th-order kinetics. The ratio of indirect oxidation by ozone to the overall H2S removal was evaluated using two different experimental findings, indicating that approximately 70% of the overall H2S elimination was accounted for by the indirect oxidation. The pilotscale NP experiments showed that H2S introduced to the reactor was completely removed at low flow rates, and approximately 90% of H2S was eliminated at the gas flow rate of 15 m3/min. Furthermore, the elimination capacity of the pilot-scale NP was 3.4 g/m3·min for the removal of H2S at various inlet concentrations. Finally, the experimental results obtained from both the lab-scale and the pilot-scale reactor operations indicated that the H2S mass removal was proportional to the applied electrical power, and average H2S masses removed per unit electrical power were calculated to be 358 and 348 mg-H2S/kW in the lab-scale and the pilot-scale reactors, respectively. To optimize energy efficiency and prevent the generation of excessive ozone, an appropriate operating time of the NP reactor must be determined.

        The metal plating industry produces a large amount of wastewater generally containing heavy metals with various chemical compounds; as such, treating the wastewater is both an environmental and an economic challenge. A vacuum evaporation system has been developed to effectively reduce the volume of plating wastewater. However, the gas stream discharged from the distillation unit of the evaporator is often contaminated with high concentrations of odorous compounds such as ammonia and dimethyl disulfide (DMDS). In this study, a non-thermal plasma process operated in wet conditions was applied to remove the odorous compounds, and it showed high removal efficiencies of greater than 99% for ammonia and 95% for DMDS. However, the gas flowrate more substantially affected the efficiency of ammonia removal than the efficiency of DMDS removal, because the higher the gas flowrate, the shorter the contact time between the odorous compound and the mist particles in the wet plasma reactor. The analyses of the maximum removal capacity indicated that the wet non-thermal plasma system was effective for treating the odorous compounds at a loading rate of less than 20 mg/m3/min even though the lowest amount of electrical power was applied. Therefore, the wet-type non-thermal plasma system is expected alleviate to effectively abate the odor problem of the vacuum evaporator used in the treatment of plating wastewater.

        Effects of dynamic high-pressure (DHP) treatments with and without integration with heating on microbial stability, vitamin C concentration, color, sugar content, and pH of orange juice were studied and compared with those of the conventional thermal treatment. Freshly squeezed orange juice was heated at 90oC for 1 min or DHP-treated at 205 MPa and 20, 50, 60, or 70oC. The DHP treatment at 20oC without heating and the treatment at 50oC inactivated indigenous mesophilic aerobic microorganisms in orange juice by 4.2 and >7 log CFU/mL, respectively. The DHPtreated juice exhibited brighter color and higher vitamin C concentration and sugar content than the thermally treated juice, regardless of integration with heating. The DHP-treated juice demonstrated brighter color and higher sugar contents than untreated juice and thermally treated juice during storage at 4oC for 63 days. The results have demonstrated the potential of applying DHP treatments to pasteurize orange juice with increasing brightness and sugar content of the juice.

        2010년 전국적으로 소, 돼지와 같은 동물에 구제역이 발병하였고, 이에 전국에 약 4,800여개의 매몰지가 긴급 조성되고 약 300만 마리의 동물들을 살처분 되었다. 이렇게 조성된 매몰지 내부에서는 가축사체가 부패하는 과정에서 황화수소, 메르캅탄류, 아민류 와 같은 악취물질이 생성되고, 매몰지 이설과정에서 대기 중으로 확산된다. 본 연구에서 는 가축 매몰지 이설과정 중에 발생하는 황 계열 물질을 저온 플라즈마 시스템을 적용하 여 저감하고자 하였다. 특히 플라즈마 시스템에서 상대습도에 따른 황화수소와 다이메틸 다이설파이드(DMDS) 제거량 변화를 실험적으로 확인하였다. 동일한 유입 조건에서 상대 습도가 증가함에 따라 황화수소와 DMDS의 제거율은 증가하였고, 이는 상대습도가 높아 지면서 발생하는 오존량이 증가하였기 때문이었다. 황화수소와 DMDS의 오존 반응식을 깁스 자유에너지로 비교해보면 DMDS의 오존 산화가 더 높은 에너지를 방출하는 것으로 나타나며, 이에 따라 황화수소보다는 DMDS가 먼저 오존에 의해 산화되며 남은 황화수 소는 촉매 층에서 추가 반응하는 것으로 판단된다.

        본 연구는 식중독을 일으킬 수 있는 황색포도상구균(Staphylococcus aureus)의 검출을 이용하여 일식당의 식자재, 조리공정, 조리 기구, 조리 종사자의 오염수준을 예측하고 오염에 영향을 미치는 인자를 확인하고자 하였다. 시료는 서울시에 위치한 일식당에서 초밥과 생선회를 수거하였다. 몬테카를로 시뮬레이션을 통해 초기 오염수준으로부터 각 공정별 위해 인자를 고려하여 최종오염수준을 예측한 결과, 새우 및 문어초밥의 경우, 모든 초밥이 저장기간 동안 S. aureus가 증식되는 것으로 나타났으며 특히, 문어초밥이 가장 높은 오염도를 보였다. 이는 생선회가 온도변화에 따른 균의 증식이 활발하고, 일식당에서 초밥을 섭취하기 직전에 초밥 중 생선회의 급속한 온도 변화가 나타나기 때문으로 판단된다. 초밥의 민감도 분석 결과, 완성된 초밥의 섭취 시 온도의 민감도 값이 0.419로 최종오염수준을 증가시키는 것으로 예측되었다. 두 종류의 초밥에서 동일하게 보관 시간과 섭취 시의 온도가 최종 오염수준에 가장 크게 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 일정 시간이 지난 후 초밥을 섭취하는 것이 균의 농도 증가에 가장 크게 영향을 미친다는 것으로 초밥을 조리 후 즉시 섭취하는 것이 균의 증식을 크게 예방할 수 있음을 알 수 있다. 연어, 도미, 방어회의 경우 섭취 시간에서 민감도 값이 0.71로 가장 큰 민감도를 나타내었고, 섭취 시 온도 또한 민감도가 크게 나타났다. 초밥의 시나리오 분석 결과, 실온 보관 시, 섭취시간이 2시간 이내일 때 식중독을 유발하지 않는 안전한 수준임을 알 수 있었다.

        With the aim to investigate the statistical properties and the connection between thermal and non-thermal properties of the ICM in galaxy clusters, we have developed a statistical magneto-turbulent model which describes, at the same time, the evolution of the thermal and non-thermal emission from galaxy clusters. In particular, starting from the cosmological evolution of clusters, we follow cluster. mergers, calculate the spectrum of the magnetosonic waves generated in the ICM during these mergers, the evolution of relativistic electrons and the resulting synchrotron and Inverse Compton spectra. We show that the broad band (radio and hard x-ray) non-thermal spectral properties of galaxy clusters can be well accounted for by our model for viable values of the parameters (here we adopt a EdS cosmology).
