        Stress has been associated with poor eating behavior and diet quality. Yet, the relationship between nutrient and food intake and perceived stress in Korean female adults has not been validated. The purpose of this study is to identify the relationship between nutrient and food intake and perceived stress in Korean female adults. This is a cross-sectional study based on the 2014-2015 Korean National Health and Nutritional Examination Survey data. This study investigated 2,010 female adults age 19~64. In this study, according to subjects' perceived stress, we classified subjects into very low-stress recognition group (VLSRG) (n=211), low-stress recognition group (VSRG) (n=1,223), high-stress recognition group (HSRG) (n=488) and very high-stress recognition group (VHSRG) (n=88). Daily nutrients and food group intake, food groups consumed (Dietary Diversity Score, DDS) were analyzed using data from the 24-recall method. The VHSRG had a larger proportion of subjects that were younger (p<0.0001), single (p<0.0001) and smokers (p<0.0001) compared to the VLSRG. Energy and food intake did not differ between the four groups. Percentage of subjects with protein (p=0.0322), vitamin A (p=0.0364) and vitamin C (p=0.0115) intake lower than the EAR (estimated average requirement) in the VHSRG were significantly lowest in the four groups. Also, food intake percentage from fruits and seaweed groups in the VHSRG were lower than other groups (p=0.0034, p=0.0015). DDS in the VHSRG (3.87) was significantly lowest in the four groups (p=0.0022). Results suggest that perceived stress in Korean female adults may by significant to consider in nutritional education programs.

        In this study, we have analyzed the 2015 KNHANES to understand the nutritional and health status of Korean middle-age adults from the perspective of frequency of eating breakfast. Those that eat breakfast five to seven times a week were 76.3 percent (male) and 72.7 percent (female). Frequency of eating lunch and dinner, and eating out was significantly higher among male subjects. The higher the frequency of eating breakfast, the higher the frequency of eating lunch, dinner and eating out. Female subjects that ate breakfast five to seven times a week had lower height and weight compared with other groups, but there was no significant difference of BMI and waist circumference among the four groups. Adults that eat breakfast five to seven times a week had consumed more carbohydrates, dietary fiber, phosphorus, potassium and vitamin C regardless of gender, which validates the nutritional benefits of eating meals regularly. Male adults that ate breakfast five to seven times a week revealed lower levels of diastolic blood pressure and LDL-cholesterol compared with other groups, which validates eating breakfast regularly was beneficial to their health. In conclusion, it is necessary to eat regular meals daily relative to the nutritional status and health of Korean middle-age adults.

        서울시 유통 건강기능식품 중 츄어블제품 66건과 인삼 홍삼제품 60건을 수거하여 분석하였다. 시료 전체의 1일 섭취량당 당함량 평균은 1.95 g이었고 범위는 N.D. ~ 12.61 g 이었다. 제품 유형별로는 츄어블 제품의 평균은 1.26 g 이었고 범위는 N.D. ~ 10.39 g이었다. 인삼홍삼제품의 평균은 2.70 g이었고 범위는 N.D. ~ 12.61 g이었다. 츄어블제품중 1 일 섭취량당 당함량은 어린이용 제품이 평균 2.10 g으로 가장 높았고 영양소제품은 평균 1.43 g, 기능성원료 제품은 평균 0.35 g이였다. 어린이용 제품은 1일 섭취량당 당함량이 1.03 g ~ 5.33 g, 영양소 제품은 N.D. ~ 10.39 g, 기능성원 료 제품은 N.D. ~ 2.61 g의 범위를 보였다. 인삼홍삼제품중 1일 섭취량 당 당함량은 액상 제품이 평균 4.25 g으로 가장 높았고 농축액 제품은 평균 1.51 g, 분말제품은 평균 1.49 g이었다. 액상 제품의 1일 섭취량당 당함량의 범위는 N.D. ~ 10.80 g, 농축액 제품의 범위는 N.D. ~ 12.61 g, 분말 제품의 범위는 0.06 g ~ 5.64 g의 분포를 보였다. 인공감미료를 분석한 결과 3건에서 인공감미료가 검출 되었다. 인삼홍삼제품에서는 인공감미료가 검출되지 않았으며 츄어블제품 중 영양소 제품 2건과 기능성원료 제품 1건에서 검출되었다. 검출된 인공감미료는 아스파탐으로 영양소 제품에서 3.09 g/kg, 기능성원료 제품에서 1.09 g/kg 검출되었고 3건 모두 허용량 이내였다.

        Objective: To explore the medicinal and health value of tea, to deepen our understanding of using tea as a form of therapy and its cultural connotation, and to provide an effective therapy within the field of natural healing. Methods: This paper aims to reveal the special value of tea therapy and its cultural connotation by looking back on the history of tea culture and basing the research on traditional Chinese medicine literature. This paper looks back upon the important books of traditional Chinese Medicine and tea theory to analyze the health effects of tea and the historical changes of the methods of using and drinking tea. At the same time we explore the medicinal effect of different varieties of tea and how they affect different groups of people. Through the analysis of the relevant social and cultural background, that is, the unique natural and human environment of China, including the influence of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism on how drinking tea improves health, we discuss the unique role of tea culture in improving health. Conclusion: Using tea therapy to improve health has had a long history in China, and its medicinal history can be traced back to the period of Shen Nong, which was thousands of years ago. The medical books and tea books of the past dynasties all recorded the medicinal effects of tea. Tea is the most common health drink. Tea has been integrated into Chinese Medicine throughout the ages, such as taking medical herbs with tea, or drinking Chinese medicine as tea drinks. Tea therapy can be used by different means, such as oral administration and external use. As for the methods of drinking tea, they have evolved from boiling tea to brewing tea. New tea making methods not only make its application more convenient, it also improves the medicinal value of tea. Now days, there are six main kinds of tea in China, and each of them have their different medicinal effects and the best way to drink them. Tea therapy is not only the substance of tea itself. It also includes the environment (nature and people) in which the tea is drunk and the tea’s cultural connotation. These make up the main components of tea therapy. The natural integration of the physical and cultural qualities of tea is the highest realm of tea therapy.

        Food has become a significant lifestyle and life quality generator, and consumers are increasingly developing food regimes with expectations of healthier, happier selves. The global food industry has turned to delivering towards these expectations, and functional foods form a significant multimillion dollar growth category. Fortified with added health-giving compounds, these foods are promoted as the modern, convenient way of obtaining health benefits from food intake itself, rather than from the use of vitamin supplements (Grunert, 2013). However, there are indications that their appeal and usage varies considerably across nations. Somewhat surprisingly, few studies have considered functional food consumption through a culturally mediated lens, as consumption entities used to convey and transfer meaning. This research explores personal meaning making for one such proposed functional food concept. Foods which are fortified to enable greater control over hunger control are currently under development as potentially assisting those seeking weight loss. The data consisted of 14 in-depth phenomenological interviews with New Zealand women who were attempting weight loss. Participants discussed their lived food and weight loss experiences and then freely responded to the weight loss foods concept. The findings reveal the omnipresent nature of weight loss practices in daily lives, with the perception of success, or failure, sometimes underpinning one’s sense of self. As found by Willis & Knobloch-Westerwick (2014), motivations for weight loss were dominated by appearance and body image concerns, driven by the continuation of persistent societal expectations privileging thinness. Extending this, the present research found a conflation of motivations where slimness was seen to equate to healthiness. A line of progression in the types of practices was revealed where many ‘fad diets’ were attempted with typically unsuccessful long term results. Although, healthism was internalised as an overriding way of thinking about food and weight loss practices, paradoxically, this often co-existed with the desire for foods of indulgence, especially for those identifying as emotional eaters. Vastly different dispositions were revealed towards the proposed innovation of the fortified weight loss foods. These were interpreted as being aligned with perceptions of identity (Tajfel & Turner, 1986). Whilst the overall fortification of foods was viewed negatively, risks and doubts were mitigated in some cases in the interest of trying the proposed foods. The research findings resonated with societal contradictions observed for food consumption (Warde 1997), and paradoxes specifically theorised for technology (Mick & Fournier, 1998). Although, technology has been theorised to be a positive enabler in consumers’ lives, offering feelings of freedom, competence, and control, it can also be regarded as an intrusion, leading to feelings of enslavement and incompetence (Mick & Fournier, 1998). Whilst there was the promise of enhanced health and wellness from a bio-technological innovation, this contradicted central beliefs about what it means to be healthy, where food for many consumers represents values of naturalness, purity, nostalgia, and simplicity (Barsky, 1988; Biltekoff, 2010). Implications of the research for functional foods marketers are outlined, advocating the need for continuing understanding of the paradoxical aspects of consumption in contemporary health contexts.

        Although excessive intake of sodium is known to cause various diseases and threaten public health and policies for reducing overconsumption of sodium are being implemented, the theoretical research on sodium intake is incomplete. This study attempted to provide a policy basis by examining whether or not planned behavior theory, which is a typical health communication theory used to describe health-related behaviors, can be applied to explain sodium intake behavior. Especially, sodium ingestion behaviors were compared using the theory of actions planned for men and women as well as young people, middle-aged, and elderly persons, who are predicted to show differences in eating habits. In this study, questionnaires were prepared to measure the daily eating habits of subjects and subordinate factors of planned behavior theory: behavioral beliefs, outcome expectations, normative beliefs, compliance motivation, and control beliefs. Questionnaires were given to 93 college students and their families. As a result of the difference analysis and path analysis of the questionnaire responses, the following suggestions were obtained. First, age difference is more obvious than sex difference in terms of low salt intentions. For example, older people are healthier than younger people in terms of eating habits and health concerns. Second, the elderly are more likely to practice the low-salt formula when they are provided information on the benefits and effects of the low-salt formula compared to younger ones. Third, systematic efforts are needed to promote a culture that emphasizes the health benefits of a low salt diet rather than providing piecemeal information on the advantages and effects of a low salt diet.

        본 연구는 건강기능식품 중 baicalin, eleutheroside E, ligustilide를 효과적으로 분석할 수 있는 방법을 확립하기 위하여 수행되었다. 이에 LC-MS/MS를 이용하여 신속하고 효율적으로 동시분석할 수 있는 시험법을 확립하였으며, 확립된 시험법에 대해 특이성, 검출한계, 정량한계, 정확도, 정밀도에 대한 검증을 통하여 유효성을 확인하고자 하였다. 표준용액을 이용하여 검량선을 작성한 결과 r2> 0.99 이상의 직선성을 확인하였고, baicalin, eleutheroside E, ligustilide에 대한 정량한계는 각각 39.3 μg/L, 106.7 μg/L, 76.1 μg/L이었으며, 검출한계는 각각 13.0 μg/L, 35.2 μg/L, 25.1 μg/L이었다. 또한 평균 회수율은 각 성분에 대해 108.0~109.9%, 99.8~101.3%, 91.4~97.2%로 나타났으며, 반 복정밀도는 상대표준편차 5%이하, 실험실간 재현성은 9% 이하로 나타나 정확성, 재현성이 우수하였으며 이는 AOAC 가이드라인19)에서 제시한 기준에 모두 적합한 수준이었다. 따라서 개발된 분석법은 향후 건강기능식품 중 baicalin, eleutheroside E, ligustilide를 동시분석하는데 효과적으로 활용할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

        최근 교도소 보건이 공중보건과 무관하지 않다는 인식이 확대되면서, 교정의료의 질을 향상시키기 위한 노력들이 진행되어 왔다. 본 연구는 영국 교도소 보건서비스 개혁의 배경과 내용을 살펴보면서 한국 교정의료에의 함의를 도출해보았다. 「피구금자최저기준규칙」, 「교도소 건강프로젝트」 등 인권과 건강권의 관점에서 교도소 의료처우의 기준들을 정립하려는 시도들은 좋은 교도소의 보건이 곧 좋은 공중보건이라는 원리를 강화시켰으며 이는 영국 교도소 혁신의 토대를 마련하였다. 1999년 「미래의 교도소 보건의료의 조직(The Future Organization of Prison Health Care)」이라는 교도소 보건서비스에 관한 청사진을 발표하면서 영국은 교정의료체계의 폐쇄성을 해체하고 국민보건서비스(NHS)와 협력을 구축하였다. 이 개혁을 통하여 영국 국민의 보건을 담당하는 NHS가 교도소 보건의료를 주도하게 되었다. 영국의 개혁은 질병 통제와 단순한 의료 처치를 넘어서서 적극적인 건강의 증진까지 통합하는 수준으로 교도소 보건의 질을 높이려 했다는 점에서 우리나라의 교정의료에 시사하는 바가 크다. 특히 교도소 건강에 대한 협소한 시각의 전환, 수용자 건강권 보장에 관한 국제적인 추세를 국내 정책과 접합시키려는 노력, 교도소 보건 정책의 목표와 수단의 구분, 공중보건체계 및 지역사회와의 연계와 협력의 중요성 등에 주목할 필요가 있다.

        Although adolescents’ obesity prevalence increases recently in Korea due to Westernized dietary life, according to social and economic development, and physical activity decline, distorted body image and improper dietary habits are prevalent, because of excessive obsession with weight control, deriving from psychological impacts including appearance supremacy. This study conducted a survey on health oriented awareness and attitude related with dietary habits targeting adolescents, such as high school students and college students, younger than 24, from May 11 to May 29, 2015. In this study, 280 questionnaire copies were collected out of 300 distributed questionnaire copies, and used 269 copies as analysis data, except 11 copies of which responses were inadequate. The results of this study are as follows: First, the high school students showed higher dietary regularity than the college students. Especially, 95.5% of the college students showed very high irregularity of lunch, compared with just 4.5% of the high school students. Second, the adolescents showed distorted perceived body image in comparison with body mass index (BMI). As a result of examining BMI relationship, according to one’s own perception on body type, 28.6% of the respondents perceived themselves fat, despite normal BMI, and 40.4% of the respondents perceived themselves normal, despite low BMI. Third, health behavior activities level was higher, as the regularity of breakfast (B=1.093), lunch, (B=0.650), and dinner (B=0.765) was higher. The variable affecting the most (β =0.372) was the regularity of breakfast. As interest in weight control was higher, health behavior activities was lower. Because over-interest in weight control may be linked with improper dietary habits or weight control, a caution is needed. The results of this study are expected to be utilized as the basic data for the policy and health-oriented program development to improve adolescents’ health behavior practice.

        In recent years, there have been many serious disasters caused by the lack of basic safety and health measures at workplaces, such as chemical poisoning accidents and fire and explosion accidents at large shipyards. At the same time, interest and awareness of the safety of our people is rising. There are several schemes to preemptively remove industrial accidents. Among them, the safety and health diagnosis system that provides the safety and health of the workplace is proposed as an alternative and the system is expanding quantitatively every year by suggesting problems and remedial measures. Therefore, it is very important to secure the safety and health of the workplace through the safety and health diagnosis. However, due to the lack of laws and regulations on safety and health diagnosis system, dumping of diagnosis amount due to the existence of too many diagnosis agencies, lack of expertise of diagnostic workforce, etc. there has been serious disasters in the diagnostic workspaces. In this regard, the reliability of the safety and health diagnosis is questionable. Therefore, in this study, I intend to improve the reliability of safety and health diagnosis by reviving the intention of safety and health diagnosis legislation

        목 적: 본 연구는 필리핀과 한국 남학생들의 안건강을 조사하여 유병률 및 위험요인을 비교 분석하고자 하였다. 방 법: 필리핀과 한국의 17세 남학생 각각 196명을 대상으로 건성안 증후군, 자각증상, 결막염, 익상편 유무를 알아보았다. 건성안 증후군은 맥모니 설문지를 이용하였으며, 자각증상 및 video display 사용시간, 햇빛 노출시간을 설문항목에 추가하였고, 결막염과 익상편은 육안검사를 통해 확인하였다. 결 과: 하루 평균 햇빛 노출시간은 수업시간을 제외하고 필리핀 학생 2시간 12분, 한국 학생 1시간 1분이 었다. 필리핀 남학생들의 햇빛 노출시간은 건성안증후군, 자각증상, 결막염, 익상편 환자에게서 유의하였다. video display 시간에서는 유의하지 않았다. 한국 남학생들은 맥모니 설문점수를 제외하고 모두 유의하지 않았다. 필리핀 학생들은 건성안 증후군에서 자각증상과 결막염 및 익상편의 발생빈도가 통계적으로 차이가 있었으며, 햇빛 노출시간이 길수록 맥모니 설문점수가 높았고, 결막염과 익상편의 유병률이 높았다. 결 론: 한국과 달리 필리핀 학생들은 햇빛 노출시간이 안건강에 영향을 미치는 것을 확인하였으며 건성 안증후군 환자인 경우 결막염과 익상편 발생빈도와 관련이 있었다. 필리핀 학생들의 안건강에 영향을 주는 햇빛 노출시간외에 다른 위험요인들에 대해 후속 연구가 필요하다.

        목 적: 본 연구는 제5기 국민건강영양조사(2012) 자료를 이용하여 한국 성인의 건성안 유병률과 위험요 인을 알아보고자 하였다. 방 법: 19세 이상 성인 중 안과의사에게 건성안 검진을 받은 5,698명(남자 2,368명, 여자 3,330명)을 대 상으로 인구사회학적 특성, 전신질환 특성, 건강관련행위 특성에 따른 건성안의 유병률과 위험요인을 분석 하였다. 결 과: 전체 연구대상자의 건성안 유병률은 13.5%이었다. 인구사회학적 특성별 건성안 유병률은 남성보 다 여성이, 50세 미만군보다 50세 이상군이, 농촌지역보다 도시지역에서 통계적으로 유의하게 높았으며, 전 신질환별 건성안 유병률은 고혈압, 이상지혈증, 골관절염, 류마티스 관절염, 우울증, 신부전증이 있는 경우 에 유의하게 높았다. 건강관련행위별 건성안 유병률은 비흡연자, 비음주자, 수면시간이 짧은 군이 높았다. 건성안 빈도는 여성에서(OR 2.29, CI 1.89-2.77)와 50세 이상군에서(OR 1.21, CI 1.01-1.46), 농촌지역에 서(OR 1.96, CI 1.56-2.47)에서 더 높았다. 유의한 모든 변수를 보정한 후에 건성안의 위험인자는 신부전 (OR 2.82, CI 1.48-5.69), 갑상선(OR 1.62, CI 1.16-2.26), 류마티스 관절염(OR 1.54, CI 1.01-2.33), 이상 지혈증(OR 1.42, CI 1.13-1.78), 우울증(OR 1.36, CI 1.11-1.66), 골관절염(OR 1.27, CI 1.02-1.57)이었다. 결 론: 우리나라 19세 이상 성인의 건성안 유병률은 13.5%으로 높은 수준이며, 50세 이상, 도시지역 거 주자, 여성과 신부전증, 갑상선, 류마티스 관절염, 이상지혈증, 우울증, 골관절염 환자에서 건성안의 위험이 높으므로 해당 위험요인을 가진 사람들을 대상으로 한 교육과 홍보를 통해 건성안증상을 조기 발견하여 적 절하게 대처하도록 할 필요가 있다

        In this study, we analyzed the factors affecting the concentration of airborne asbestos fiber in the indoor and outdoor environment of a slate roofing house, and performed a health risk assessment of residents living in houses with slate roofs. Sampling was conducted at ten houses with slate roofs on 3 different days under different weather conditions. A high flow rate pump was used for sampling. The specimen was assessed using a phase-contrast microscope. The degree of risk of exposure to asbestos was assessed using EPA’s carcinogen risk assessment method. Asbestos fiber concentrations for slate roofing houses were 2.43 fiber/L inside and 2.46 fiber/L outside, respectively. The correlation between the indoor and outdoor asbestos fiber concentration was 0.486. But on both sides, the asbestos fiber concentrations did not exceed the standard (10 fiber/L) for ambient air in Korea. The factors affecting the concentration of asbestos fiber were year of construction (p<0.05), total roof area (p<0.05) and average wind velocity (p<0.01). According to EPA’s ELCR (Excess Lifetime Cancer Risk) on air pollution substances, a level of 1.0E-04~1.0E-06 should be maintained. However, the ELCR level of 6 out of 10 houses was over 1.0E-04. Therefore, a risk management plan for residents of slate roofing houses must be prepared immediately.

        The Youngsan River estuary was physically changed by the construction of a sea embankment at near the mouth of estuary. Weirs were also constructed recently in the freshwater zone and it was reported that algal blooms occur more frequently. The freshwater introduced into saltwater zone from sluice gates of the embankment affects water quality but it has not been addressed that how the freshwater inputs influence the health of marine ecosystem. In this study, we used the data of water properties and phytoplankton communities collected at three stations for 4 days including before the freshwater discharge, during the discharge and after 1 and 2 days of discharge events. WQI (water quality index), TRIX (trophic status index) and P-IBI (phytoplankton index of biotic integrity) were used to evaluate the ecosystem health and long-term data were also utilized to determine the criteria for P-IBI. The results showed that grades of the ecosystem health assessed by the indices were low at the station near the gates and increased as downstream. However, the temporal pattern of grades was different depending on methods. Grades of WQI and TRIX decreased during the discharge and restored after the discharge whereas the grades of P-IBI decreased slightly even after the discharge. This suggests that P-IBI is more applicable to estuarine systems where experience extreme change of water properties than WQI and TRIX since P-IBI includes phytoplankton that can respond quickly to the change.

        This study examined the socioeconomic factors that affect self-rated health (SRH) in healthy adults, and the relationship of SRH to health-related habits, serum biochemical indices, and nutritional intakes. Subjects consisted of 1,154 healthy adults without any known disease, aged 19 to 65 years (average age of 36.7), whose information was obtained from the 2013 Korean National Health and Nutritional Examination Survey data. Of these subjects, 73 rated themselves as ‘very healthy,’ 460 indicated that they were ‘healthy,’ 568 self-identified as ‘ordinary’, and 53 put themselves in the ‘unhealthy’ category. The proportion of subjects who chose ‘unhealthy’ was significantly increased with higher frequencies of disruptions in their daily lives (p<0.05), regret after drinking (p<0.05), smoking (p<0.001), and higher levels of stress (p<0.001). On the other hand, the proportion of subjects reported as ‘very healthy’ was significantly higher with regular intense (p<0.001) or moderate physical activities (p<0.05), regular walking (p<0.05), a perception of being ‘normal’ in their body image (p<0.01), a decrease of body weight more than 3 kg in the past year (p<0.05), and without risk factors for metabolic syndrome (p<0.05). Serum triglyceride level was lower, and 25-(OH) vitamin D content was significantly higher, in the ‘very healthy’ group as compared to the ‘unhealthy’ group (p<0.05). Dietary fiber and vitamin C intakes were significantly higher in the ‘very healthy’ group than ‘unhealthy’ group (p<0.05). The overall results suggest that a healthy lifestyle, including regular exercise, non-smoking, good stress management, and higher intakes of fiber and vitamin C, may be potential factors that affect one’s positive perception of health.

        This study was conducted to evaluate the risk of overweight and obesity in adolescents consuming snacks frequently from 2007~2009, Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES). The subjects (12~14 years: n=523; 15~18 years: n=614) were presented with food frequency questionnaires, and they were classified according to their gender and frequency of snack consumption. In the age group of 12~14 years, boys and girls (boys OR: 1.11, 95% CI: 0.52~2.39, girls OR: 12.45, 95% CI: 2.26~68.51) who consumed yogurt frequently had a higher risk of overweight and obesity at the highest quartile frequency compared with the lowest quartile after adjustments for multiple confounding factors, including age, physical activity, frequency of eating out and snack consumption, and energy intake. In the age group of 15~18 years, girls (OR: 1.01, 95% CI: 0.34~2.99) consuming fried foods had a higher risk of overweight and obesity at the highest quartile frequency compared with the lowest quartile after adjustments for multiple confounding factors, including age, physical activity, frequency of eating out and snack consumption, and energy intake. Thus, we conclude that frequent consumption of yogurt and fried foods increases the risk of overweight and obesity in adolescents. These findings suggest that the risk of overweight and obesity is associated with the frequency of snack consumption.
