        This study was conducted to validate the planting status of landscape plants and elements of Seoul National University of Education. Despite of long historical background of school, this type of research was seldomly conducted before as innovation strategy of university. And the purpose of this study was to offer the opportunity of design criteria of school to offer the new concept of eco-friendly design and analyzing plants species or compatibility of plants with surroundings. The natural environment was analyzed and light environment was specially investigated to compare the ability of plants. The current situation and compatibility of plants were investigated according to the site and species. So, the result of the study should be implemented as valuable resources for improving the landscape spaces and plants of school in the future. The landscape design includes the followings: a survey of the present status, a site analysis, s schematic design, and the needs of students for design development. To create the landscape spaces, we proposed school spaces by the concept of eco- friendly of nature image. The university space was designed to have educational spaces like safety, green amenity and rest areas for the students which are designed to be harmonious with other surroundings. Based on that, some of the university space was specially proposed with CAD imagination work and all the results were accomodated under the concept of new strategy of university innovation for the future. Through the university space designed by this study, the university students ,faculties and other dwellers around university will have more opportunity of contact with nature and increase the value of university effectively.

        This study examines the local ozone photochemistry in the urban air. The photochemical formation and destruction of ozone was modeled using a photochemical box model. For the model prediction of ozone budget, measurements were carried out from an urban monitoring station in Seoul (37.6˚N, 127˚E), Korea for intensive sampling time period (Jun. 1~15, 2003). Photochemical process is likely to play significant role in higher ozone concentrations during the sampling period. The results of model simulation indicated that photochemical ozone production pathway was the reaction of NO with HO2 while ozone destruction was mainly controlled by a photochemical destruction pathway, a reaction of H2O with O(1D). The contribution of NMHCs to formation and destruction of ozone in the urban was significant. This was entirely different from remote marine environment. The rates of net photochemical ozone production ranged from 0.1 to 1.3 ppbv h-1 during the study period.

        화물발생 예측을 위해 주로 이용된 방법은 교통존을 중심으로 한 공간단위의 접근기법이다. 또한 연구사례에 따라 물동량 전수화 방법에 차이가 있고 모형에 포함된 변수가 다른 경우가 많아 일관된 화물발생 예측에 어려움이 있다. 본 연구에서 시도한 물동량 단위 예측기법은 개별 사업체를 대상으로 유출·입하는 화물 물동량과 종업원수, 매출액, 연면적, 부지면적 등 사업체의 특성을 이용하여 사업체 단위로 화물발생을 예측하는 것으로 공간단위 접근기법보다 간편하고 다른 지역에 적용이 가능한 장점이 있다. 연구의 대상은 수도권에 소재한 사업체이며 매출액을 설명변수로 선정하여 회귀식을 추정하고 모형의 적합성을 검증하였다. 회귀모형의 형태는 지수형으로 매출액이 증가함에 따라 화물발생의 규모도 커지는 특징을 갖는다. 본 연구는 교통 존 단위가 아닌 사업체 단위로 화물발생을 예측하는 보다 미시적인 연구방법을 개발함에 의의가 있다.

        Soil is one of the most fundamental elements as well as with water and air in studies associated with the environment, in addition, it is one of the important environmental mediums that constructs a basis of the biological system and performs various roles of matter circulation. This study was carried out in Seoul, in May 2000 to evaluate variation in the concentration levels and distribution characteristics for PAH compounds in soil. Soil samples were collected from 33 sites covering traffic, factory, incineration and mountain groups and the PAHs were analyzed. The results show a wide distribution range of PAHs concentrations between 14.66 ng/g and 1,219.35 ng/g. The highest concentration levels exist at Sungsu-2 of the factory group (FS-2). Daemo-3 of the Mountain group (MD-3) presents the lowest levels as compared with the other sites. PAH compounds including mutagenic and carcinogenic materials show high concentrations in the traffic and factory groups and a high ratio in the mountain group. Besides, these compounds absorbed with micro particles might be spread out over a wide region associated with particles' movement and diffusion. After principal component analysis of the soil samples, the results indicated that the sources of PAHs in the soil were divided into two groups, pesticides and vehicles.

        To investigate the chemical characteristics of PM2.5 in Seoul, Korea, atmospheric particulate matters were collected using a PM10 dichotomous sampler including PM10 and PM2.5 inlet during the period of October 2000 to September 2001. The Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectromety (ICP-MS), Ion Chromatography (IC) methods were used to determine the concentration of both metal and ionic species. A statistical analysis was performed for the heavy metals data set using a principal component analysis (PCA) to derived important factors inherent in the interactions among the variables. The mean concentrations of ambient PM2.5 and PM10 were 24.47 and 45.27 ㎍/㎥, respectively. PM2.5 masses also showed temporal variations both yearly and seasonally. The ratios of PM2.5/PM10 was 0.54, which similar to the value of 0.60 in North America. Soil-related chemical components (such as Al, Ca, Fe, Si, and Mn) were abundant in PM10, while anthropogenic components (such as As, Cd, Cr, V, Zn and Pb) were abundant in PM2.5. Total water soluble ions constituted 30~50 % of PM2.5 mass, and sulfate, nitrate and ammonium were main components in water soluble ions. Reactive forms of NH4+ were considered as NH4NO3 and (NH4)2SO4 during the sampling periods. In the results of PCA for PM2.5, we identified three principal components. Major contribution to PM2.5 seemed to be soil, oil combustion, unidentified source. Further study, the detailed interpretation of these data will need efforts in order to identify emission sources.

        The seasonal variation and frequency of rainfalls of Korea peninsula in Changma period show strong local weather phenomenon because of it's topographical and geographical factors in Northeast side of Asia. Based on weather entropy(statistical parameter)-the amount of average weather information-and information ratio, we can define each area's weather representativeness, which can show us more constant form included topographical and geographical factors and seasonal variation. The data used for this study are the daily precipitation and cloudiness during the recent ten years(1990-1999) at the 73 stations in Korea. To synthesize weather Entropy, information ratio of decaying tendency and half-decay distance, Seoul's weather representativeness has the smallest in Summer Changma period. And Puyo has the largest value in September.

        As the modern societies have become complicated and diverse, people's interest in "leisure time" has been higher than ever before, especially in relation to 5 day work a week. The increasing weekend trip and the travlers' demand for the better service and the convenient accomodations gave birth to "Pension" as one of accomodations in Korea. This study focuses on the attempt to plan and design the establishment of the competitive "Pension" which are popular between travelers in their twenties and thirties living in cities. This study also attempts to find the solution of the problems in relation to the actual conditions of the pensions which are built and under construction, and to suggest a new revised concept of pension. The summary is as follows: 1. This study focuses on the special theme of building Mo-Hyun Myon pension community with originality and new style of management. 2. This study includes the introduction of the special agency which makes reservations, promotes, and manages for the convenience of customers and buyers. 3. It pianos to secure the public area for various events and rests. 4. The geographical features of the site where the complex stands will be fully utilized to maximize the beauties of nature.

        The purpose of this study is to examine farmers' intentions, attitudes, and the type of filming they are involved in, including to provide supporting data for planning the agricultural strategy and Green Belt policy in Seoul. All the collected data was analyzed using the contingency tables and the Chi-square test using the SAS computer statistical package. The leaseholders did not want to change the current Green Belt policy for the study area, while the landowning farmers hoped for either its revision or dissolution. Both groups pointed out that the Green Belt policy resulted in the delay of development and complained about the difficulty of changing the land use type. The older generation supported the dissolution of the Green Belt, policy, as compared with the younger generation who wanted to maintain or modify the policy. The leaseholders worried that the possible changes in the Green Belt policy might affect the current agricultural land contract system, whereas the landowning farmers were very interested in easing restrictions on changing land use. The compensation plan, which is indemnified land owners for their loss of restrictions on land use, might be useful to sustain urban farming in the Green Belt.

        Photochemical-Trajectory model was used to understand the production of ozone in the atmospheric boundary layer. This model was composed of the trajectory and the photochemical models. To calculate trajectories of air parcels, winds were obtained from the three-dimensional nonhydrostatic mesoscale model (PSU/NCAR MM5V2), and the results were interpolated into constant height surfaces. Numerical integration in the trajectory model was performed by the Runge-Kutta method. The photochemical model consisted of chemical reactions and photodissociation processes. Chemical equations were integrated by the semi-implicit Bulirsch-Stoer method. We performed our experiments from 21 July to 23 July 1994 during the summer time for Seoul area. During the time of maximum ozone concentration in Seoul, four trajectories of air parcels which traveled from Inchon to Seoul were selected. Ozone concentrations estimated by two models are compared with observed one in Seoul area and the photochemical-trajectory model is better fitted than pure photochemical model. During the selected period, high ozone concentrations in Seoul area were more influenced by transferred pollutants from Inchon than emitted pollutants in Seoul.

        Indoor and outdoor nitrogen dioxide (NO2) concentrations were measured and compared with measurements of personal exposures of 95 persons in Seoul, Korea and 57 persons in Brisbane, Australia, respectively. Time activity diary was used to determine the impact on NO2 exposure assessment and microenvironmental model to estimate the personal NO2 exposure. Most people both Seoul and Brisbane spent their times more than 90% of indoor and more than 50% in home, respectively. Personal NO2 exposures were significantly associated with indoor NO2 levels with Pearson coefficient of 0.70 (p<0.01) and outdoor NO2 levels with Pearson coefficient of 0.66 (p<0.01) in Seoul and of 0.51 (p<0.01) and of 0.33 (p<0.05) in Brisbane, respectively. Using microenvironmental model by time weighted average model, personal NO2 exposures were estimated with NO2 measurements in indoor home, indoor office and outdoor home. Estimated NO2 measurements were significantly correlated with measured personal exposures (r = 0.69, p<0.001) in Seoul and in Brisbane (r = 0.66, p<0.001), respectively. Difference between measured and estimated NO2 exposures by multiple regression analysis was explained that NO2 levels in near workplace and other outdoors in Seoul (p = 0.023), and in transportation in Brisbane (p = 0.019) affected the personal NO2 exposures.

        In spite of the importance of the farm area in Seoul, in providing fresh vegetables, a pleasant environment and a good quality of life for residents, rapid urbanization and industrialization have greatly reduced the farm area. The purpose of this study is to examine farmers' intentions and attitudes to provide supporting data for planning the strategy of urban agricultural development. All the collected data was analyzed using the contingency tables and the Chi-square test using the SAS computer statistical package. Based on analysis of the survey data, the leaseholders were found to be more satisfied with their job than the landowning farmers. Also, the small-scale farmers with green houses showed greater job satisfaction than the ordinary large-scale farmers. Farmers' views on the farming in Seoul were different depending on their status. Therefore, agricultural strategies in there should be considered their different attitudes.

        The personal exposures of nitrogen dioxide(NO2), microenvironmental levels and daily time activity patterns on Seoul subway station workers were measured from February 10 to March 12, 1999. Personal NO2 exposure for 24 hours were 29.40±9.75 ppb. NO2 level of occupational environment were 27.87±7.15 ppb in office, 33.60±8.64 ppb in platform and 50.13±13.04 ppb in outdoor. Personal exposure time of subway station workers was constituted as survey results with 7.94±3.00 hours in office, 2.82±1.63 hours in platform and 1 hours in outdoor. With above results, personal NO2 exposure distributions on subway station workers in Seoul were estimated with Monte Carlo simulation which uses statistical probabilistic theory on various exposure scenario testing. Some of distributions which did not have any formal patterns were assumed as custom distribution type. Estimated personal occupational NO2 exposure using time weighted average (TWA) model was 31.29±5.57 ppb, which were under Annual Ambient Standard (50 ppb) of Korea. Though arithmetic means of measured personal NO2 exposure was lower than that of occupational NO2 exposure estimated by TWA model, considering probability distribution type simulated, probability distribution of measured personal NO2 exposures for 24 hours was over ambient standard with 3.23%, which was higher than those of occupational exposure (0.02%). Further research is needed for reducing these 24 hour NO2 personal excess exposures besides occupational exposure on subway station workers in Seoul.
