        A new Gomchwi cultivar ‘Sammany’ was developed by a cross between Gomchwi (Ligularia fischeri (Ledeb.) Turcz.) and Handaeri-gomchwi (Ligularia fischeri var. spiciformis Nakai). Gomchwi is a common Korean name referring wild edible plant species within Ligularia genus. ‘Sammany’ has purple colored petiole ears and petiole trichome is absent. It has 2nd degree leaf vein density. Plant height, leaf length, leaf width and petiole length were 46.2, 19.1, 19.5 and 32.1 ㎝, respectively. Plant height was higher than ‘Gondalbi’. Bolting occurred in mid. July and it flowered from late August to early September. ‘Gondalbi’ bolted and flowered 26 days earlier than ‘Sammany’, and consequently has earlier flowering time more than 26 day. Leaf number of ‘Sammany’ was 156 per plant but ‘Gondalbi’ had 130. ‘Sammany’ had thicker leaves (0.61 ㎜) compared to ‘Gondalbi’ (0.46 ㎜). As a result, yield was higher in ‘Sammany (1,077 g/plant)’ than ‘Gondalbi (798 g/plant)’ and leaf hardness was lower in ‘Sammany (20.8 ㎏/㎠)’ compared to ‘Gondalbi (23.0 ㎏/㎠)’. In addition, ‘Sammany’ was found to be moderately resistant to powdery mildew. With enhanced agronomic and pathology traits, ‘Sammany’ was newly registered as a new Gomchwi cultivar (variety protection no. 131 on May 2017).

        Background : Angelica tenuissima Nakai is a major medicinal plant around GyeoungBuk Area. Powdery mildew of Angelica tenuissima Nakai caused a Erysiphe heraclei DC. is a major disease. It was found leaf of Angelica tenuissima after rainy season. There was no agicultural chemical registration on Angelica tenuissima. Ecofriendly control needs Angelica tenuissima for GAP. Methods and Results : The seedlings used for the test were sowed and cultivated in mid-February at Bonghwa herbal crop research institute. The irrigation water was irrigated through a drip irrigation system. Powdery mildew occurred after rainfall lasted more than 2 days at the end of June. The pathogen (Erysiphe heraclei DC.) was identified by observing the diseased plants with an optical microscope. Bordeaux mixture was tested using Gold Bordeaux which was listed in the eco-friendly material list and the magnification was 500 times for the medicinal efficacy test and 250 times for the damage test. For the chemical treatment 40 ㎖ of Bordeaux mixture was added to 20 ℓ of water to prepare 500 times of the solution and the treatment was sufficiently wetted to the plant at about 8:00 am. The first treatment was treated at 7. 5 days, the second treatment at 7. 13 days, the third treatment at 7. 26 days, and the final investigation at 7.26 days. The occurrence of powdery mildew was sufficient to evaluate the treatment effect at 13.0% in untreated control and the control value was low at 33.5% in one treatment but 74.0% in control after 2 treatments showed significant control effect. 89.2% respectively. As a result it is effective to control the powdery mildew of Bordeaux solution at least once every seven days to improve the control effect. Conclusion : Control value of bordeaux mixture was higher than after two times of treatment. Bordeaux mixture treatment of powdery mildew on Angelica tenuissima control 89.2% and it can use a producing ecofriendly agricultural product.

        본 연구는 소과종 수박의 병해충 발생 양상을 조사하고 이중 가장 문제가 되는 병 들 중 의 하나인 흰가루병을 방제하기 위한 유기농업자재를 선발하기 위하여 수행되었다. 2015년 충북 음성에서 소과종 수박에 발생하는 병해충 조사 결과 덩굴마름병, 흰가루병, 목화진딧 물, 점박이응애, 총채벌레류, 파밤나방, 담배거세미나방 등 일반수박에 발생하여 피해를 주 는 대부분의 병해충이 발생하는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 이중 흰가루병은 6월 중순에 품종 별로 27~99.3%의 발생률을 나타냈으며 점박이응애는 6월 중순에 품종별로 엽당 마릿수가 79.9~111마리로 높은 발생을 보였다. 또한, 총채벌레류는 6월 중순과 상순에 황색과 청색 평판점착트랩 각각에 트랩당 407마리와 774마리로 높은 유살수를 나타냈다. 포장에서 마 요네즈와 올레산 그리고 현재 시판 중인 유기농업자재 3종에 대한 흰가루병 방제 효과를 조사하였다. 조사 결과 sodium bicarbonate 80%가 함유된 자재, 마요네즈 그리고 대황추출 물 1%가 함유된 자재가 60% 이상까지 효과적으로 병 발생을 감소시켰으며, 이중 sodium bicarbonate 80%가 함유된 자재가 83%로 가장 높은 방제가를 나타냈다. 본 연구를 통해 소 과종에 발생하는 병해충에 대한 정보와 sodium bicarbonate 80% 함유 자재가 흰가루병 방제 에 효과적이라는 것을 알 수 있었다.

        Recently, many breeders have preferred to use molecular markers for introgression backcross programs enabling foreground and background selection to cope with rapid cultivar changing of seed markets. In accumulation of target traits with marker-assisted selection, larger numbers of markers should give better resolution. For the analysis of quantitative traits, a high-density genetic map with a large number of markers is required for discovering more accurately linked markers with traits. Watermelon is a recalcitrant plant to generate a high-density genetic map with conventional molecular markers including simple sequence repeats (SSRs), since watermelon has narrow genetic diversity background and severe segregation distortions of those SSR markers. Thus, we have developed efficient and valid way to assemble genetic map and markers by next-generation sequencing coupled with genotyping by sequencing in F2 generation. After crosses between Citurullus lanatus ssp. citroides (PI254744 and PI189225) and C. lanatus ssp. lanatus (TS34, Korean cultigen), 163 of F2 progeny were sequenced through Illumina's Hi-Seq GAII platform. From sequence information of those variant call files, the SNPs were indexed and filtered by sequencing depth with genotype converter (SNP Genotyper), and optimized by heuristic physical bin mapping to construct more reliable genetic linkage map. Reliable SNP loci were determined and compared to sequences of physical reference map. Using the genetic map, we determined QTLs in F2:3 population and found major loci corresponding to seed size and powdery mildew race1 resistance in watermelon.

        Powdery mildew disease caused by Leveillula taurica is a serious fungal threat to greenhouse pepper production. In contrast to most epiphytic powdery mildew species, L. taurica is an endophytic fungus which colonizes in the mesophyll tissues of the leaf. In the genus Capsicum, several studies have been conducted to identify resistance sources to L. taurica. In previous studies, five quantitative trait loci (QTLs) for powdery mildew resistance have been identified. An F2 population derived from self-pollination of the commercial cultivar Capsicum annuum ‘PM Singang’ was used for genetic analysis of powdery mildew resistance. Resistance of the F2 plants was tested under the natural environmental conditions. Sporulation intensity on infected leaves was used as a disease scale to assign resistance levels to plants, where 0-5% is Resistant, 6-15% Moderate resistant and 16-100% Susceptible. A total of 83 F2 plants were evaluated for resistance. The results showed that 59 plants were resistant, 10 susceptible and 14 moderately resistant. If we consider MR as S, segregation ratio fitted to a single dominant resistance gene model. In the future study, closely linked molecular marker will be developed and tested to locate this gene. The developed marker will be used to identify the powdery mildew resistance gene.

        본 연구는 온실 내 오이재배에서 크게 문제가 되는 흰가루병의 친환경적 방제를 위한 방법으로 올레산의 사용에 대한 효과와 올레산 처리 시 적정 농도를 구명하기 위해 수행되었다. 실험은 상명대학교 플라스틱 실험온실에서 ‘백봉다다기(농우바이오, 한국)’를 사용하여 수행하였다. 오이의 흰가루병에 대한 올레산의 처리효과와 적정농도 구명을 위한 실험은 무처리구를 대조구로 하고 올레산 2000 ppm, 4000 ppm, 6000 ppm, 8000 ppm을 각각 처리하고 병피해도, 병반면적율, 방제가, 약해피해도 및 약해면적율을 조사하였다. 방제가는 처리 3일 후에 조사했으며, 재발생 조사는 55일간 수행하였다. 시설 내 주야간 온도는 23/15℃로 조절하였고, 상대습도는 조절하지 않았다. 오이의 흰가루병 방제에 올레산은 매우 효과적인 것으로 나타나서 화학적 방제를 대체할 수 있는 좋은 친환경 유기농자재로 판단되었다. 올레산은 2000 ppm 농도로 분무하는 것이 방제가가 높으며, 약해가 발생하지 않는 것으로 조사되었다. 또한 흰가루병의 예방 및 재발생 방지를 위해 3주에 1회씩 올레산을 분무하는 것이 좋을 것으로 사료된다.

        A new standard rose cultivar ‘Green Star’ was bred from the cross between pink color standard cultivar ‘Pastel move’ and red color standard cultivar ‘Vital’ at the National Institute of Horticulture & Herbal Science. The cross was made in 2008 and ‘Green Star’ was finally selected in 2013 after investigating characteristics for three years from 2011 to 2013. ‘Green Star’, a light yellow standard cultivar grows vigorously and has good and big shape. The major characteristics of this cultivar are 122.0 stems/㎡/year in yield, 77.0±8.0 cm in length of cut flower, 12.1±0.4 cm in flower diameter, 37.7±4.2 in petal number, and 11.0±1.4 days in vase life. This cultivar can be propagated by both cutting and grafting. The consumer’s preference of this cultivar is relatively higher than that of control cultivar, ‘Moonlight’.

        Powdery mildew and leaf mold were major diseases in organic cultured tomatoes. NaHC03 and KH2P04 were selected as control agents for controlling tomato powdery mildew. Control effect of the selected control agents was increased when they were tréated with oil-egg yolk mixtures (OEYO). Also four organic materials used commercially including copper hydroxide and sulfur showed high control effect more than 90% in green house. Also two organic matters, copper hydroxide and sulfur showed high control effect in farmer's field. When tomatoes were cultivated in plastic house installed wìth circulation fan, incidence of powdery mildew and leaf mold was reduced by 56% and 60%, respectively.

        A new powdery mildew resistant squash (Cucurbita moschata Duch.) ‘Miso' was bred from a cross between powdery mildew resistant true variety ‘Sangol’ and powdery mildew susceptible inbred line ‘Seoulmadi’ at National Institute of Horticultural & Herbal Science (NIHHS). The ‘Miso’ variety was vigorous and highly resistant to powdery mildew. It showed white green fruit color. The variety yielded 21.3MT/ha which is 52% more than control variety.

The cross was made in 2002 and ‘ink holic’was finally selected in 2007 after investigating characteristics for three years from 2005 to 2007. ‘ink holic’ a light pink standard cultivar grows vigorously and has powder mildew resistant. The major characteristics of this cultivar are 185.4 stems/m2/year in yield, 83.9cm in length of cut flower, 11.0cm in flower diameter, 42.9 in petal number, and 22.4 days in vase life. This cultivar can be propagated by both cutting and grafting. The consumer's preference of this cultivar is relatively higher than that of control cultivar, 'Moon light'.

        A new rose variety, was selected from the progenies of a cross between “osai”and “okimeky”in 2006 after evaluation trials for three years (2004-2006). “altz”was developed because of many petals and powdery mildew resistance. A standard type with large sized flower, “altz”shows in 11.0 cm flower diameter. “altz”produces 130 stems・m-2 in a year. It has red-white color flower and 49.6 petals per flower. The stem length of cut flower was long with 69.3 cm. Vase life of the variety could be as long as 9.6 days.

        The New bicolor spray rose (Rose hybrida Hort.) cultivar was developed by line selection in 2000 at the Flower Breeding Research Institute, Gyeongnam ARES. Characteristics were investigated three times from 2003 to 2006. ‘Yellow King’ was crossed between ‘Spring Time’ and ‘Flair’ and it has a Yellow Orange-group color (RHS No. 16A), few thorns and spray flower with a good harmony between ray floret and flower center. The vase life of cut flower was 9.1 days. It was registered as commercial cultivar in 2006. This new cultivar could be planted in most of greenhouse production region of Korea and will be released to general rose growers in 2007.

        A new pale pink colored standard rose (Rosa hybrida Hort.) cultivar, 'Fine Pink' was developed at the Jeollanamdo Agricultural Research and Extention Services (JARES). Seedling and line selection were conducted in 2003 and its characteristics were examined three times from 2004 to 2006. 'Fine Pink' was obtained by crosse between 'Nobless' and 'Yvessaaintlaurent'. It shows a red group color (RHS No. 56C), very weak fragrance, and standard flower with good harmony between ray floret and flower center. It has a characteristic of straight stem. The average yield during 2004-2006 was 113 stems/m2. It has 10 days vase life and resistance to powdery mildew. This cultivar was registered as a commercial cultivar in 2007. It is suitable for greenhouse in all regions in Korea and will be released to farmers in 2009.
