The purpose of this study was to examine the extent to which influencing factors impact the transference willingness of farmers. The research method is based on the survey data on transference willingness, and the binary logistic model was used to analyze the influencing factors. The results show that the educational level, annual household income, farm labor, and farmers' understanding of land transfer policy notably influence land transfer. Based on the results, suggestions include improving farmers' social security system, improving a sound market for rural land transfer, and deepening the promotion and explanation of land-related policies.

The purpose of the study is to suggest policy recommendations for mid- to long-term strategies through performance evaluation of food assistance implemented by the Korean government. Since Korea became a member of the FAC (Food Assistance Convention) in 2018, the government has been focusing on eradication of starvation by cooperating with the international community, recognizing the basic human needs and providing food to hungry people around the world. However, the existing way of food assistance is to meet the FAC pledge contributions to comply with international norms and maintain humanitarian support. Thus, it is necessary to establish a long-term strategy for effectiveness and efficiency of the food assistance. The study find out that there would be a high possibility to expand the scale of the current food assistance program of Korea by utilizing the imported rice without a conflict.

To assist farmers in shifting from subsistence to commercial agriculture, the government of Laos has promoted farmer organizations throughout the country. The farmer production groups have gradually transformed and emerged into strong cooperatives or associations. The purpose of this study was to examine the factors affecting farmers’ participation in FPGs. Data were collected from primary and secondary sources. A total of 140 respondents participated in a field survey in three kumb ban (village groups) in the Xepon District. Descriptive statistics and binary logistics regression models were used to analyze the data. The results show that the education level of household head, farmland size, access to credit, and perceived trust for farmer production group membership are significantly different from those who are non-members of the groups. However, non-members of FPGs face more constrain in accessing the market, as compared to the members of FPGs. The empirical results from the Binary Logit Model indicate that education level of headed household, farmland size, access to credit, perceived trust, and constraint to market are factors that significantly determine farmers’ participation in FPGs. This study contributes to the empirical literature by providing a better understanding of farmer participation in the groups. The government of Laos should consider and promote access to credit, farmer learning, and market integration to improve farmers' participation in FPGs.

Various eco-friendly seed disinfection technologies have been developed due to the increase in the global demand for organic food. In order to produce sustainable and eco-friendly agricultural products in Korea, seed disinfection technologies for the production of wholesome seedlings have been researched in diverse ways compared to how they were examined in advanced countries. Both domestically and internationally, the eco-friendly seed disinfection technologies to secure the horticultural crops have been treated by biological or physical methods, such as hot water treatment with ultrasonic disinfection technology, or applying organic agricultural materials like organic acids in plant extracts. However, from a practical perspective, various applied technologies can be implemented in farm fields to disinfect significant agricultural crops, such as lettuce, Chinese cabbage, radish, watermelon, cucumber, paprika, red pepper, ginger, ginseng, and sesame seeds.

Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) is one of the most popular horticultural crops cultivated globally. Since the 1950s, the National Institute of Horticultural and Herbal Science (NIHHS) of Rural Development Administration (RDA) has been conducting research on developing Korean tomato cultivars. Recently, the objectives of breeding have been diversified according to the rapidly changing market trends. To meet such demands, various cultivars with distinct characteristics have been made: rootstock tomato, ornamental tomato, sweet cherry tomato, and virus resistant tomato. In 2022, a total of 20 cultivars were registered for variety protection in the Korea Seed and Variety Service (KSVS) and two cultivars with high temperature tolerance have been under field trials for application. In this paper, the breeding history and major characteristics of eight representative tomato cultivars are discussed. Since each tomato has its own valuable feature, they are expected to be used in diverse places from garden to farm.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the forage maize varieties and sowing date under wet seasons conditions and determined the effects on yield in Cambodia. In this study, the number of days from sowing to silking was approximately nine longer in May and June than in July, August, and September. The number of days from silking to harvest was seven shorter in May and June than in July, August, and September. The variety with the least decrease in ear height was ‘BT5666’, and the variety with the least decrease in ear height ration was ‘CP888’. On the other hand, in sowing days, ear height ratio decreased in September. The best sowing season in ear length, ear width, number of ears and number of grains per row was in May. In this study, ‘BT5666’ was the variety with significant decrease with a 90% reduction in yield. The results indicate that the yield was high during the sowing period in May and in June because of the appropriate precipitation, temperature, and solar radiation. However, August and September had significantly reduce in yield by high precipitation and low solar radiation.

Soybean is an important crop widely grown in the northern region of Nigeria for human and animal consumption. Commercial production of soybean in Nigeria has existed for eight decades. Current malnutrition and nutrient health problems in Nigeria warranted the introduction of high nutritive and affordable food sources such as soybean in the Nigerian diet. The high demand for soybean and its products has led to the rise in the cultivation of soybean in Nigeria. Although an increase in production has been recorded, the region of production has failed to achieve the potential yield per hectare. In improving soybean production in Nigeria, it is paramount to understand the factors that contribute to the process of production. This review paper provides information on factors affecting soybean production across the regions of production in Nigeria. The identified factors responsible for the yield gap include the impact of climate change on the agroecology shift, nutrient depletion and soil fertility, sowing date, the emergence of pests and diseases, and limited improved soybean cultivars. Adoption of improved soybean variety suitable in agroecology and sowing, at the appropriate sowing date by Nigerian farmers, can guarantee optimum soybean production. Further soybean breeding improvement studies are needed to provide more improved varieties with superior performance in Nigeria’s agroecology to achieve yield potential.

Grapevine leaf rust (GLR) caused by Phakopsora euvitis results in the reduction of fruit quality and yield loss in grape production. The purpose of this study was to investigate the expression of genes related with defense responses in the grapevines infected with rust pathogens. In two genotypes of Ampelopsis species inoculated with P. euvitis, the real-time PCR with RNAs was performed to investigate transcripts levels of nine defense-related genes, including pathogenesis-related 1 (PR1), β-1,3glutannase (Glu), chitinase (Chi), superoxide dismutases (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GPX), phenylalanine ammonia lyase (PAL), chalcone synthase (CHS), stilbene synthase 1 (STS1), and resveratrol O-methyltransferase (ROMT). All tested genes were upregulated in YG11030 as well as YG10075, while mostly the expression of genes was higher in YG10075 than that in YG11030. Glu and STS showed significantly high expression in YG10075 than in YG11030. Expression of ROMT was upregulated in YG11030 and downregulated in YG10075 at 24 hours after inoculation. The differential expression pattern of the tested genes seems to be related with the defense responses, considered to be involved in plant-resistant responses against the infection by P. euvitis, and further studies on resistant responses based on the expression of genes would provide valuable information in breeding grapes resistant to diseases.
