The seed spray technology prepares for landscape by spraying seeds, fertilizers and other materials but does not consider the relationship of the germination time and temperature of seeds for construction. The purpose of this study is to develop a functional formula that shows the relationship of germination and temperature for using the Papaver orientale L. seeds for the spray technology. The germination test in a chamber was progressed from March to April 2014 and the verification experiment proceeded in a greenhouse in May 2014. After culturing each 100 seeds of Petri dish and Papaver orientale L. seeds on filter beds 4 repetitive times, each 10mL of the first distilled water was sprayed to treat temperature at level 7 and the light source was maintained at 4~4.5μmoles/m2/s. The germination rate was investigated at two-day intervals, and the germination was based on the emergence of 3mm radicles. For experimental verification, seeding was implemented in a greenhouse and daily mean temperatures and germination periods were investigated. As a result of the treatment, based on a 50% germination rate, the functional relation between the temperature and germination period was found to be y = 1/-0.0004x²+ 0.0224x-0.0398, R2 = 0.9441. As the result of the analysis of the cardinal temperature from using graphs of functions, the lowest temperature was 2°C and the optimum temperature was 28°C and the highest temperature was 54°C, but in the actual test, normal germination was made at 5°C and the unusual germination of the final germination rate was below 50% at 35°C. In the experimental verification, as a result of substituting the daily mean temperature with functional formulas, it was found to be 4.4 days and the lapse of time for actual foliation was investigated to be 5.5 days.

Recently, sales attempting of emotion between the flower shop and cafe is increasing by their strategic partnership. The combination of them, however, is at an early stage. So it’s unsystematic and also related research is not entirely satisfactory. Thus, the research tried to contribute to flower cafe’s vitalization by analysing the image characteristics and preference factor of the flower cafe. The subjects of analysis are 6 flower cafe located in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. The research method is as in the following. General public group and professional group, each of them is 100 people, are the research object. They did a survey which is about their sense of the flower cafe, visual preference about display elements, the image characteristics of the cafe and a difference of awareness between the groups. Collected material was analyzed by SPSS statistics 18 program. The result of the research is that they preferred color of all display elements and didn’t prefer POP(Point of Purchase Advertising). Additionally, an average of ‘Modernistic-Traditional’, which is an adjective item of cafe image characteristic, is the highest while the average of ‘Graceful-Unpretentiously’ is the lowest. In the research, the most important variable in visual preference about display elements is display goods, and the most influence elements in image characteristic of cafe is scale feeling. Moreover, there are the difference between a gender about preference and image characteristics. Especially, the general public group has higher perception than the professional group under the statistical significance level. This research shows that the flower cafe makes user easily access to flower and plants, and there is high correlation between the visual preference and image of display and preference of cafe.
This study tried to compare and analyze the thermal comfort index according to GVZ of school green space. For the analysis, this study performed a correlation analysis with weather elements by measuring and calculating UTCI, PMV, and WBGT according to GVZ. GVZ was in the order of Type 3 (5.68 m3/m2) > Type 2 (4.71 m3/m2) > Type 1 (3.37 m3/m2). The average temperature and solar radiation, surface temperature, globe temperature among weather characteristics was in the order of Type 1> Type 2 > Type 3. The UTCI in the school green space was in the order of Type 1 (33.95°C) > Type 2 (33.68°C) > Type 3 (32.73°C). At Type 3 that the GVZ is higher than other Types, it is belongs to range of 26~33°C which gets normal heat stress, and other Types belong to range of 33~38°C which gets strong heat stress. The PMV was in the order of Type 1 > Type 2 > Type 3, and the estimated rate of unsatisfaction was appeared as 100%, so it is uncomfortable even in the school green space that it requires measure on heat wave. The WBGT was in the order of Type 1 > Type 2 > Type 3. The result of the correlation analysis according to the heat comfort index shows that, the higher the green ratio and GVZ are, the UTCI has negative relationship, and PMV and WBGT were analyzed as have no relationship according to green characteristics, but this result was considered as measured at green space when the temperature was at its highest so the uncomfortable feeling was also highest. The result of correlation analysis of green characteristics and the weather elements shows that GVZ and insolation, temperature has negative relationship, so it is considered that the higher the GVZ is, the solar radiation and the temperature are decreased.
The objectives of this study were to assess plant growth of the flowering shrub species for adapting to growing on hanging baskets in the vertical greenery system with different cover materials and substrates for low maintenance effectively utilizing rainfall. Water amount taken up by the fabric cover was higher than that by the plastic film cover. Evaporated water amount from the fabric cover was much slower than that from the plastic cover. A higher ratio of hydrophilic polymer to the substrate resulted in higher substrate water content within the same cover material. The relative growth rates of plant height, leaf width and stem diameter were higher when the Cotoneaster horizontal was grown in the vertical greenery system with the fabric cover, whereas the leaf number and survival rate were higher with the plastic film cover. The relative growth rates of plant height, leaf width and leaf number and the survival rate was higher when the Euonymus fortunei ‘Emerald n Gold’ was grown in the vertical greenery system with plastic film cover than those with both fabric cover and hydrophilic polymer treatment. In contrast, the stem diameter of Euonymus fortunei ‘Emerald n Gold’ was higher in the plants grown in the vertical greenery system with the fabric cover at a 1.0% ratio of hydrophilic polymer to substrate than that with plastic film cover. The highest stem diameter of Spiraea × bumalda ‘Gold Mound’ was observed in the plant grown in the vertical greenery system with fabric cover and at a 1.0% ratio of hydrophilic polymer to substrate, while there was no significant difference in the plant height. The leaf number was decreased with increase in the ratio of hydrophilic polymer to substrate, while the leaf width was decreased. The survival rate of Spiraea × bumalda ‘Gold Mound’ was higher than 80% regardless of treatments. In particular, the highest survival rate was observed in the plastic film cover treatment after overwintering.
This study was carried out to investigate growth characteristics of plants in accordance with irrigation period and to find the optimum irrigation conditions for plants that help to improve the indoor environment. Four foliage plants used in this study included Chlorophytum comosum, Dieffenbachia amoena ‘Marianne’, Epipremnum aureum, and Spathiphyllum spp.. The plants cultivated in three different irrigation frequency: 2 times/week; 1 time/week; and 1 time/2 weeks. As a result, average soil moisture content of four foliage plants for one month measurement period, 2 times/week, 1 time/week, and 1 time/2 weeks were maintained at 47.3±3.0%, 17.3±2.0%, and 10±1.5%, respectively. All four kinds of plants showed a good visible growth in 1 time/week irrigation. Chlorophytum comosum was slowly begin to die in 1 time/2 weeks irrigation and it was completely dead at the end of the experiment. So it is considered that circumspection is needed for drying. Dieffenbachia amoena ‘Marianne’ was dead by each one pot in 2 times/week and 1 time/2 weeks. So it seemed to be a proper watering plants. Epipremnum aureum, and Spathiphyllum spp. showed good growth characteristics regardless of irrigation frequency, it showed good tolerance of the irrigation. This study as a part of an extensive green roof system development was carried out to assess the heat tolerance of 11 species Sedum spp. on the extensive green roof system: S. kamtschaticum, S. oryzifolium, S. polystichoides, S. sarmentosum, S. acre, S. album, S. reflexum, S. rupestre, S. sexangulare, S. spurium, and S. telephium. Electrolyte leakage evaluation was used to estimate the heat tolerance level of each Sedum at 40°C, 45°C, 47.5°C, 50°C, 52.5°C, 55°C, and 57.5°C. The critical temperatures at the midpoints of sigmoidal curves fitted through electrolyte leakage (EL) were predicted with the range of 54.0°C to 65.2°C. S. album, S. telephium, and S. sexangulare were more tolerant of high temperature than the others. In field condition, the heat tolerance of 11 species Sedum spp. applied to the suggested extensive green roof system was also estimated by EL evaluation. The EL (%) values of 11 species Sedum spp. subjected to maximum temperature (46.7°C) recorded during the experimental periods were lower than 50% except S. kamtschaticum and S. spurium. Especially, S. album, S. rupestre, and S. telephium were ranked higher than the others in heat tolerance. The most Sedum spp. would show good heat tolerance on the extensive green roof system if the maximum temperature on rooftop was below 50°C in summer season.
This study was carried out to investigate the formaldehyde (FA) filtration pattern of additional media for indoor biofilter system. Dry pellet type activated carbon (PAC), activated clay (ACL), zeolite, diatomite, pumice and loess ceramic ball were tested. In the case of dry filter media, formaldehyde purification efficiency was the most excellent with activated clay and then was good with the activated carbon, diatomite, zeolite, and pumice order. PAC and ACL decreased the FA concentration with exponential pattern resulted from dynamic balance between emission and purification. Zeolite, diatomite, pumice, and loess ceramic ball showed high filtration rate at initial time and then increased FA concentration result from breakthrough. PAC, zeolite and diatomite could be recommended as additional filter media for biofilter system considering FA filtration and breakthrough characteristics. FA filtration and breakthrough characteristics were improved with wet media except PAC and ACL. In particular, purification performance improvement and breakthrough mitigation were higher in pumice and loess ceramic balls. PAC+ZEO mixing showed the most high purification performance and breakthrough mitigation in all mixing methods. Thus mixture of PAC with zeolite and vertical mixing could be recommended as additional filter media to improve the FA purification ability and pressure drop with indoor air biofilter system.

This study applies the results of iconological interpretation of Sosaewon and Villa D’este’s constructed areas to the context interpretation methodology of contemporary aesthetics, which is based on writer’s own artistic context derived from writer’s own artistic works. This approach intends to develop and apply new forms of garden art and imagification into writer’s own artistic works by mixture and juxtaposition of these whole heterogeneous implications of Sosaewon and Villa D’este. In addition, the study attempts to construct new value in garden art by applying the diverse artistic aspects of Sosaewon and Villa D’este derived from their diverse iconological interpretation, seeking transition from current standardized garden planning system to compound and fusion system of garden art in the modern times. The study attempts to draw new flow of contemporary garden art. For this, de-constructivism perspective, which contains post-modern cultural characteristic, is applied to examine the Sosaewon and Villa D’este’s hidden but intended factors and spirits by the builders.
Sosaewon and Villa D’este were built in the early of 16th and mid-of 16th each. Sosaewon was built based on the accommodation of topography of the surroundings whilst Villa D’este highlights the distinction of terrace and axis existed on the configuration of the grounds and natures. Both gardens have reflected the social and political influence in that period of constructing tat the builders had been through. These factors have been analyzed by iconological methodology to interpret the inherent meaning of the garden in philosophical, mythological, religious and Feng-shui context and discovered the interconnected relations between two gardens. The characteristic of Sosaewon’s space is based on the Mu-yi-gu-gok, which is derived from a Taoist, due to a builder’s Neo-Confucianism value. Hence Sosaewon contains the adaption of the nature itself based on the values of Mu-yi-gu-gok, which are expressed by visual, auditory and literary elements, brining about the poetic beauty of waiting. The structures of Villa D’este reveal the combination of nature and art whilst it also connotes the theme of ‘The Choice of Hercules’, indicating the builder’s philosophy and will symbolically. Each space of Villa D’este has diverse space for various interpretations followed by this theme. For the interpretation of meaning of Sosaewon and Villa D’este, Sosaewon has adapted the nature of surroundings which contain a view of nature, on the other hand, Villa D’este borrowed the nature of surroundings to build and decorate the garden, using natural terrace and axis for the variation, and drag the river near the garden artificially to fit into the axis of the garden. Villa D’este contains significant mythological and iconological factor intended to highlight the builder’s dignity, status and position.
