We have studied to investigate the causes and the degree of complaints of the spectacle wearers in Korean middle school student. Data were collected using a self questionaires, examination of fitting condition of the spectacles, ophthalmic dispensing state from 54 spectacles wearers. The results are as follow : 1. The most common causes of physical complaints are slipping forward(73.1%), nose pressure(67.3%), loose or wobbly(50.0%) and the most popular causes of visual complaints are dizzy(40.3%) 2. The degree of physical complaints are slipping forward(l.O), nose pressure (0.8), loose or wobbly(0.7) and the degree of visual complaints are dizzy(0.6) 3. The degree of physical complaints are serious in the case where the adjustment state of the spectacles is improper and it slips forward even in the proper adjustment state. 4. In the spectacles wearers group who experienced dizzy complaint and ohjeet size change, there is more BO prism effect than the other group who didn't experience visual complaint, but there 1s no BI and vertical prism effect between those groups. 5. The spherical equivalent difference has no effect on the visual complaint of the spectacle wearers in middle school ages. As the result, the most common causes of the spectacle wearers in the middle school ages are slipping forward and dizzy and whose degree are more serious than the other causes. And the spectacle adjustment state, prism effect and spherical equivalent difference have no effect on the complaints of the spectacle wearers in middle school ages.

Presbyope has not clear vision with elderly changes. To introduce the essential preliminary examination for presbyope, we performed preliminary tests in 190 elderly patients with case history, slitlamp examination, pinhole test, Hirschberg test, pursuit, stereopsis, pupil reaction, Worth-4 dot test, Amsler grid test, dominant eye test. To perform an examination, the case history is clitical as it guides the whole examination. Chief complaints were epiphora, decreased visual acuity, floaters, hyperemia, eye pain, etc. From the information gained in the case history, we deduced a list of tentative diagnosis. Throughout the examination we decided whether additional tests. The 18.9% of patients didn't have improve visual acuity in pinhole test. Cause of reduced visual acuity in pinhole test was opaque of refractive media such as cataract or pterygium. In 44.7% of patients, stereoauity falls below 40s of arc. The 6.8% of patients have suppression of right or left eye. The 28.9% of patients have metamorphopsia or scotomas in Amsler chart test. Therefore, pinhole visual acuity helps to differentiate ocular pathology from lack of refractive media clarity. Amsler chart is also useful for monitoring age related maculopathy. We suggest that Jones dye test for tear drainage, pinhole test, Amsler grid test and Worth-4 dot test are essential for presbyope.

The purpose of this research was to investigate the relationships between the socioeconomic condition, health attitude and the eye health of the elderly. Thereupon, this study is attributed to promote the eye health of the elderly. Data were collected through questionnaire by one-to-one interview in a community. The content of original questionnaires were revised by literature review and the pilot study. The sample was consisted of 285 elderly with a mean age of 71.8 years. In the study group, female was 52.3% and male was 47.7%, respectively. In age group, over 80 years was 16.5%, 75-79 was 21.0%, 70-74 was 29.5%, 65-69 was 26.0% and 60-64 was 7.0%. In maritai status, married and living with spouse was 54.4%, widowed was 45.6%. The elderly were suffering with diseases of arthritis(33.3%), hypertension(20.1%), cataract(14.2%) and diabetes(9.7%), respectively. Socioeconomics conditions were measured with monthly allowance money : The upper group those who can spend over 310,000 won was 13.6%, 110,000-300,000 won was 34.0%, less than 100,000 won was 52.5%, respectively. Therefore, the person who were very active health practice group were correlated positively with the wealthier group. Of the total, 33.2% of the elderly answered, they are suffering from two kinds of diseases combined at the same time. For the elderly who have the more concem on eye health were positively correlated with the higher educational level, live with spouse, and the ones who can spend the more monthly allowances. Eye health concem is positively correlated to health attitude.

This study carried out a questionnaire survey of opticians working at optical dispensing shops and eye elinies in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do for their job satisfaction for the period from june to October 2003. According to the result of analyzing opticians' job satisfaction according to their general characteristics, job satisfaction appeared higher in those aged over 36, in married ones than unmarried ones, and in college graduates and above. In addition, job satisfaction was higher in those working at ophthalmologic hospitals than those working at optical dispensing shops, in managers than in employees, those with a monthly salary over 3 million won, those who work less than 8 hours a day on the average, and those who have work experience over 8 years. However, no significant difference was found according to gender and the number of job changes. According to the result of regression analysis on general characteristics and job satisfaction, influence was high in order of working hours a day, workplace, academic qualification and location. According to the result of analyzing the 7 factors of job satisfaction, which were autonomy in work, human relations, work environment, occupational pride, job status, wage and the sense of belonging, opticians generally appeared to be satisfied with autonomy in work, human relations, job status and the sense of belonging, but not in work environment, occupational pride and wage. In addition, according to the result of comparing opticians working at optical dispensing shops with those at ophthalmologic hospitals for the 7 factors, the latter were more satisfied than the former in human relations, work environment, occupational pride and job status.

In this study, spectral transmittance of signal lights (red, green, and yellow) through each colored lens was measured in other to examine changes in color sense of traffic lights according to color (red, yellow, green, blue, brown, and black) and coloring time (30 sec, 1 min, 5 min, 10 min, 20 min, and 30 min) of plastic tinted lens. The results were as follows ; Spectral transmittance distribution of a red light through lenses having different coloring time for each color (red, yellow, green, blue, brown, and black), study at the lowest value in the range of wave length 580-585 nm through red, yellow, green and blue lenses. The minimum value through brown lens was found at 55 0-600 nm, and at 570-590 nm through black one. Spectral in transmittance distribution of a yellow light through lenses with various coloring time for each color (red, yellow, green, blue, brown and black) stood at the minimum value showed at wavelength 540 nm through red, yellow, and green lenses and at 540- 670 nm through blue, brown, and black lenses. In the examination on spectral transmittance distribution of a green light through lenses having diverse coloring time for each color (red, yellow, green, blue, brown, and black), results appeared similar regardless of color and transmittance was lower less than 15% at the long-wavelength part over 600 nm. The dominant wavelengths of traffic lights according to each tinted lens were calculated as follows. The dominant wavelength of a red light was measured at 665-669 nm in red and yellow lenses, at 669-679 nm in green and blue lenses, at 664-676 nm in brown lens, and at 672-677 nm in black lens. The dominant wavelength of a yellow light showed at 565-558 nm in red lens, at 548-535 nm in yellow lens, at 540-576 nm in green lens, at 549-579 nm in blue lens, at 518 - 575nm in brown lens, and at 566-576 nm in black lens. The dominant wavelength of a green light appeared at 484-472 nm in red lens, at 487-485 nm in yellow lens, at 491-479 nm in green lens, at 490-484 nm in blue lens, at 490- 476 nm in brown lens, and at 483-477 nm in black lens.

The anatomical structures of the head and face are determined by genetical factors and they are important indicators in the field of anthropology. But it is known that they could be influenced by environmental factors such as diet, conditions of nutrition, behavior and so on. In Korea, there have been many changes in the diet pattem since 1970s that anatomical structures of the body have been changed. But there was no anthropolygic studies on the facial features in Korean youth. Therefore in this study we have undertaken to determine the head and facial measurements of the 220 male middle school students free from systemic and ocular diseases or abnormalies. The results are as follows. The head height of the youth is similar with the adult, but other head measurements are smaller than those of adult. The face width and the face height of the youth are smaller than those of the adult and the partial ratio of the subnasale-gnathion measurement on the face height is significant smaller than that of adult. In the face of youth head width, head length, face width and bitragion breadth are correlated weakly with the height and the subnasale-gnthion is correlated with the height significantly.

Finite model eye with four aspheric surface, photopic VlSlon, and emmetropia was designed. The visual performance of model eye is predicted and compared. Designed model eye has variable pupil diarneter from 1 mm to 8 mm theoretically. At pupil diameter 4 mm, longitudinal ray aberration of model eye is 0.63 D. At wavelength between 470 nm and 650 nm, longitudinal chromatic ray aberration is 1.15 D. Airy disk diarneters are deterrnined by using point spread function and f-number. The visual performance of model eye of emmetropia, -0.50 D , -0.75 D, -1.00 D, -1.50 D, and -2.00 D myopia is predicted, and compared with clinical subjective refraction

In order to estimate the UV-A ray line 's cut rate and sensitivity in color lens, it was measured the light transmittance in the 320-700 nm wavelength regions. W e obtained the area to integrate the light transmittance of standard lens and sample in the 320-400 nm wavelength regions and established a, ~ of UV-A line' s cut efficiency by contrast its area. The Eye sensitivity in the difference conditions of a light source intensity consists of two functions by the receptor of cone and rod according to a wavelength. Transmission light which permeate depends on absorption wavelength, and relationship of final luminous efficiency' s estimation method is expressed by multiplication of luminous efficiency and transmittance intensity of lens.
