Purpose : To evaluate visual acuity(V A) according to Jight transmissi on of tinted Jenses. Methods : 37 college students in Daegu and Kyungbuk province(24 males, 13 females, a mean age of 22.8±2.0 yrs.) were seJected. AJJ of them had corrected visuaJ acuity of 0.8 or better, no anisometropia of 2.000 or more, no ocuJar and systemic diseases. Gray, brown, red, green, yellow, bJue, pink lenses are tinted in accordance with BS EN 1836(1997) so that Juminous transmittance of the lenses classified 80-90%(0 category), 60-80%(1-1 category), 43-60(1-2 category), 30- 43%(2-1 category), 18-30%(2-2 category). VA was measured with Han's visual acuity churt. Results : ln wearing tinted lens, the VA decreased. the photopic condition at distance, VA with all the tinted Jens decreased except 0 category Jenses of brown, yellow, blue tint and 1-2 category Jens of yellow tint. ln mesopic condition at distance, V A with all tinted Jenses decreased except 0 category Jens of gray tint. ln the photopic condition at near. V A with alJ tinted Jens decreased. In mesopic condition at near distance, VA with alJ tinted Jenses decreased except 0 category Jenses of green and pink tint. ln the photopic condition at distance. the measured corrected VA with all tinted Jenses excepts 2-2 category of gray tinted Jens was 0.8 or better. ln the mesopic condition at distance. the measured corrected VA with all tinted Jenses was Jess than 0.8. ln the photopic condition at near. the measured corrected VA with 2-2 category Jens of gray tint was 0.8 or better. ln the mesopic condition at near, 1-1 category Jens of bJue tint were measured corrected visual acuity Jess than 0.8. 1-2 category of alJ tinted lenses were measured con·ected visual acuity Jess than 0.8. Conclusions : VisuaJ acuity according to color and light transmittance of tinted lenses was different. When choosing tinted lenses, the decreased leveJ of visuaJ acuity needs to be considered.

Purpose : We have investigated the vanatwn between ocular components and re(ractive error v.~lh various age groups between 20 to 69 years old. Methods : Refractive error and ocular components were measured in 100 adults (200 eyes) v.~th healthy eyes. Spherical equivalenl. corneal power and mean corneal radius were measured using a Canon RK-Fl autorefractor. Anterior chamber depth and axial length measurements were made using IOL Master. AUCR ratio was calculated by dividing axial length measurements by mean corneal radius. Power vector analysis was used to analyze the refractive error which is expressed with three vectors : M, Jo. J 15· Results : Measured Spherical equivalent values were -1.51±2.480(males -1.33± 2.070, females -1.63±2.670). and showed significant age groups dependence. Measured AUCR ratio values were 3.15±0.15(males 3.16±0.12. females 3.15±0.17). and showed significant age groups dependence. Prevalence of spherical equivalent were as follows : myopesOlleyes. 55.5%). emmetropes(49eyes. 24.5%). hyperopes (40eyes. 20%), and astigmatic eyes(89eyes, 44.5%). As increasing the age from 20s to 60s, M components of power vector analysis showed the change myopia to hyperopia(from -3.44±2.460 to 0.88±1.270). Jo components of power vector analysis changed with-the-rule(WfR) to against-the-rule(ATR)(0.41±0.67D for 20s and -0.01± 0.350 for 40s). J4s components of power vector analysis were -0.67±0.140 for 20s and 0.09±0.270 for 50s. ln J.,s components analysis. the cylinder axis observed near 135 degree for 20s and 45 degree for 50s. Linear regression analysis showed the strong negative correlation between axial length and spherical equivalent(r = -0. 73. p < 0.0001). The correlation between AUCR ratio and spherical equivalent showed the most strong negative dependence(r = -0.82, p < 0.0001). Conclusion : Prevalence of myopia showed 55.5%0lleyes) in 200 eyes. Refractive error showed the change from myopia to hyperopia and total astigmatism showed the change from with-the-rule to against-the-rule with increasing ages. Analysis of biometric data showed that AUCR ratio has the highest negative correlation with spherical equivalent.

Purpose : To investigate correlations between ocular components and corneal aberration according to comeal topographic pattems. Methods : 100 subjects (127 eyes) whose corrected visual acuity is 20/20 or better participated in this study. Ocular components. comeal topography and comeal aberration were measured. Results : Round type was 25%. oval type was 17%. symmetric bow tie type was 15%. asymmetric bow tie type was 26%, irregular type was 17% in classified by corneal topographic patterns. There were significant correlations between 1st coma aberration and refraclive error. between corneal power and total astigmatism. spherical aberration(total. 1st. 2nd and 3rd). There was significant correlations between comeal eccentricity and 2nd astigmatism. There were significant correlations between corneal astigmatism and astigrnatism(total. 1st and 3rd). Refractive error. comeal astigmatism and comeal aberration were the highest value in round type among the 5 different comeal topographic patterns. Corneal power was the highest value in oval type. but corneal eccentricity was the highest value in symmetric bow tie type. Conclusions : lt is considered that this data can be used as basic information for further studies regarding effecls of comeal pattern and aberration on the qualily of vision.

Purpose : To provide eye care practitioners with guidelines in selection of lenses based on visual needs of wearer. we measured optical characteristics and analysing distance, intem1ediate. and near zones of each PAL design. Methods : 34 lenses which are selling in the market currently, were ordered through a shop as if for a patient with a prescription of piano distance and a + 2.000 add for right respectively. The total number of tl1e lenses was 34 and they were obtained from the manufacturer directly to get a equatable of lenses. Each lens optics was measured with VM 2000(Visionix Ltd. Israel) three times. Limiting the viewing zone width by 0.500C or + 0.250S. distance. intem1ediate. near viewing zone were analysed respectively by lmm vertical steps. Results : Setting the criterion at addition + 2.000. the maximum unwantcd astigmatism was - 1.95 to -3.560( -2.32±0.37). clistance viewing zone area was 9.17 Lo 91.25 mm2(30.57±17.20 mm2 ) . intermediate vie\ving zone area was 10.52 to 41.21 mm2(19.56±6.88 mm2 ), the highest occurrence of the + 1.750 was apart 10.35 m to 18.16 mm(l3.53±2.02 mm) from fitting cross. and neru· viewing zone area with over + 1.750 was 26.58 to 111.25 mm2(62.31± 18.07 mm2 ). There were significant differences with measurement variables. And the usage ratings were measured on t11e criterion of the distance zone. intermediate zone. and near zone width and their horizontal width. Conclusions : The optical characteristics across the progressive addition lenses tested in this study were showed a variance of wide ranges. The ratings of visual needs of wearer on the distance zone, intermediate corridor and near zone can be used in selection of appropriate lenses to match individual specific needs.

Purpose : To compare the visual function at near and to obtain the useful clinical data for diagnosis and prescription of relieving prism. Methods :The 88 subjects, 64 males and 24 females, mean age of 25.1±4.8. were recruited. Subjective refraction, amplitude of accommodation. relative accommodation, near point of convergence(N.P.C). fusional vergence, stereopsis, AC/A ratio, fixation disparity parameters, dissociated phoria and associated phoria were measured by using various charts, and prism prescription by criteria was compared. Results : 9.05±1.660 of amplitude of accommodation by minus Jens addition, 7.39±4.40 cm of NPC. 2.29±0.310 of NRA and -3.04±0.90 of PRA were measured respectively. Break point and recovery point of negative fusional vergence were 21.63±5.856 and 12.81±4.656 respectively, and those of positive fusional vergence were 22.41±6.97 6 and 12.21±4.926. In cases of stereopsis measured with Borish vectographic nearpoint card II. 61.21±60.65" with real contour ring chart and B6.74±175.5b" with l<andom dot E chart were measured and there were significant differences between the values(t = -4.815. p = 0.000). ln the dissociated phoria test using 3 types of card, mean dissociated phoria were -3.04±4.666 (8orish card). -2.71±4.886(Howell card) and -3.04±4. 796(Modified Thorington). The highest phoria was measw·ed with Borish card adopting prism add method. There was significance between Borish card and Howell card(t = -2.437. p = 0.017), but no significance between Borish card and Modified Thorington card or among three cards found. In the associated phoria test. mean associated phoria was -0.66±1.87 6(Borish card). -0.76±1.956 (8ernell slide). -0.69±1.796 (Saladin card) and -2.05±3.55 (Wesson card) the highest exo-phoria. Statistical significance was found. only when Wesson card is included(F = 6.645. p = 0.000). Oissociated phoria( -0.67±1.856) and associated phoria(-3.40±4.666 ) by Borish card(t = -6.858. p = 0.000) were showed significant difference. Gradient AC/A ratio using S±l.OOD is below ; 3.20±1.62.6 "'~th Borish card. ~.05±1.456 wilh Howell card, 2.76±1.19/\ with Modified Thorington. There was no significant difference. Fixation disparity parameters were X -intercept -2.05±3.556 . Y-intercept -3.09±4.59' and slope -0.83±0.81 '. according to Ogle's four types fixation disparity curve type, the order of type was I type, ffitype, Ntype, II type and so for1h.In the comparison of prescriptions by Sheard's criterion, Percival's criterion and associated phoria, exo-phoria and eso-phoria needed prism prescription only in associated Phoria. Conclusions : Stereopsis, dissociated phoria and associated phoria varied with cards. In that reason. examination, diagnosis, prism prescription of subjective symptoms on phoria have to consider the card used and criteria adopted, and the card to be used is need to be adopted in compliance with criteria after understanding character of each card.

Purpose : Near point of convergence(NPC) was used in making the diagnosis of convergence insufficiency(Cl) by 93.8% of the optometrists surveyed. however, there are no published age-related normative values in the literature to substantiate these values. so we measw·e the NPC break values and the recovery values of high school students. Methods : The subiects were 186 elementary schoolchildren in lo garde. middle grade and high grade. We measured NPC by different methods(AT and PLRG), and the distance and near phoria. Results : The NPC break values and the recovery values of AT target were 3.38±2.24 cm, 8.58±3.11 cm for lo garde. 3.00±1.59 cm, 8.48±2.68 cm for middle grade and 3.44±1.55 cm, 8.22±2.14 cm for high grade. The NPC break values and the recovery values of PLRG target were 5.30±3.18 cm, 11.03±4.43 cm for lo garde. 4.3R±2.f)0 cm, 10.08±3.85 cm for middle grade and 5.39±3.37 cm. 10.87±4.07 cm for high grade. Conclusion : The NPC break values and the recovery vaJues of AT target were 3.31±1.82 cm, 8.40±2.62 cm, PLRG target were 5.12±3.13 cm, 10.73±4.14 cm. I suggest a clinical cutoff value of 8 cm for NPC break and 12 cm for the MPC recovery.

Purpose : The purpose of this study was to survey on the wearing glasses and refractive errors in GP contact Jens user. Methods : we evaluated the refractive error and wearing conditions of the GP lens of 80 patients(male 18, female 62) from February 2006 to April 2007 on the Eye Clinic of K Hospital. Results : GP contact lens wearing time were daily over than lOhours 90%, 5 to 10hours 8.7%. 2 to 5hours 1.2%. Wearing time a day of have not glasses were 13.10±1.26 hours, wearing time a day of have glaases were 12.45±1.34hours. GP contact lens wearing time more Iong than wearing time have not glasses. Only contact lens wearers were 25% without eyeglass. difference of refractive error and spherical value of glasses were larger values of contact lens user than novice. Difference of refractive error and spherical value of glasses were larger vaJues of GPiens user in over one year than GPlens user in within one year. Conclusions : ln these results, majority of contact lens user were not recognized need corrected eyeglass. we knew that exchanged not glasses more Iong time GP contact lens users, accordingly, have not eyeglass were needed to educate thal contact lens wearer have to corrected eyeglass.

Purposes : The effect on corneal swelling and curvature changes in the region of center and peripheral under wearing of therapeutic lenses on a daily and extended wear basis is analyzed. Methods : Thirty three college students(22.4±1.92 years old. 12 males and 21 femaJes) who consent to this clinical triaJ and have no ocuJar surgicaJ history and contact Jens complications were participated in clinical trial. Six therapeutic Jenses which are being prescribed most commonly in the clinic were fitted on the r ight eye(wear group) and no Jens fitted on the Jeft eye(control group). Each eye was examined after 8hours and 24 hours to compare cornea thickness and curvature changes. ln order to fit another Jens in turn. 48 hours interval at the !east was required and no other lenses were not allowed during trial Jens wear. Results : Comeal swelling induced by therapeutic soft contact Jens wear was significantly different in 8 hours(F=33.00. p=O.OO) and in 24 hours(F=38.83. p=O.OO). The degree of swelling in 8 hours of Jens wear was : A Jens(HENIA+ NV. WC : 38%. Dk/t : 7.86) 3.57±2.22%. D Jens(HEMA, WC : 55%. Dkft: 15.68) 3.18±2.05%. F Jens(HEMA+NVP, WC: 55%, Dk/t: 15.92) 2.79±1.61%. C Jens(Vifilcon A. WC: 55%, Dk/t : 23.88) 1.54±1.66%. B Jens(Ocufilcon D. WC: 55%. Dk/t : 26.85) -0.59±2.13%, E Jens(Lotrafilcon A. WC : 24%, Dk/t : 160.92) -0.70±1.53% in that order. The degree of swelling in 24 hours was : A Jens 8.50±3.71. D Jens 8.16±3.58%. F Jens 6.68±3.66%, C Jens 4.31±2.11%. B Jens 2.86±2.84%. E lens -0.03±1.97% respectiveJy. The order in 8 hours was ass that in 24 hours. Conclusions : Therefore. B Jens, C lens, E Jens are found to be more suitabJe for therapeutic Jens in this study. In case of A Jens, D Jens, F Jens which caused significant swelling, in order to confirm if those lenses are suitable for therapeutic Jens, further study on deswelling during day time after extended Jens wear is needed.

Purpose : This research was performed to evaluate the effect on the intraocular pressureCIOP) and K-reading after cataract surgery. Method : This research was done on the cataract-operated 154 eyes, and measured both intraocular pressureOOP) and K -reading before and after surgery operation. Each of the patients was male 58(70eyes) and female73(84eye). Result : ln case of IOP in preoperative, the average value of IOP was 14.2171± 3.2264 mmHg. ln postoperative, the average value of IOP was 13.5855±3.0955 mmHg, which was lower than preoperative. And aJso statistical difference was found. In case of K-reading in preoperative, the average vaJue of K-reading was 7.6422±0.2551 mm. In postoperative, the average value of IOP was 7.6567±0.2695 mm. It showed a little deerease and no statistical diffcrcncc was fotmd. Conclusion : These results suggest that intraocular pressure(IOP) decreased after cataract surgery(p < 0.05), but we judged that age and elisease like glaucoma of each subject can influence on increase and deerease of intraocular pressureOOP) by the error. ln addition, we judged the change of K-reading was caused by incision position of operatien and type of IOL etc.
